East London has some crazy wind sometimes. Perhaps other drivers loose control of their doors...not an excuse but been to Gonubie and got blown all over the place.

I understand your frustration. Even when you park on the other side of the planet, someone will end up next to you. I'm considering getting the dent and scratch removal insurance. Its like R100 a month but they fix all small dents and scratches once a month.

Please read the small print on those policies before you sign on the dotted line. I work with them every day and by and large they are useless.

Car manufacturers should bring back that rubber strip running along the side of the cars. It saved a lot of heartache.

It probably won't help when a 4x4 driver slams his door into your car because the height of the door will miss the strip. It all depends on the shape of the offending door.
You'd need a strip at the top and middle of the doors to catch most of the bumps and then it doesn't sort out the tannies with handbags and people who attack vehicles with shopping trolleys.

I've just resigned myself to the fact that a vehicle is a depreciating asset which is going to get bumps and scratches from inconsiderate people so I may as well not get worked up about it. Life is too short to worry about these niggles.

Parkings are too small, takes dedicated effort to climb out your car without touching the car next to you. This is a peeve for me too. My car got its first door dent within its first 100km. Also, never park next to a 2 door coupe, their doors are probably 20% wider on average to allow for the back passengers to get out....

R650! Those okes are dreaming. I usually pay R200-R300.

I will rather wait until I can get a slot with mu usual guy

I personally don't worry about fixing dents unless they are a rust hazard. All that ends up happening is that you'll fix one one day and the next there will be a new one. I give up. All they are to me now are just constant reminders about how inconsiderate people are. :p

The one i had two years ago was far from useless. Unless they have reduced the benefits substantially since then?

In thirty five years of driving I've never had a ding from a door. But I have been sooo tempted to kick the crap out of the doors of the pricks who can't park straight and leave a gap so narrow that only a seriously underfed famine victim could get in to my car.

I recently offended someone who parked on top of my car on the passenger side, and who was still sitting in his car (probably because he couldn't get out his driver's door). I told my daughter to just slam the door into his if she was battling to get in, and he'd eventually work out how to park if it cost him enough. We were in the old banger with half a million km on the clock, so I don't give a toss if I lose a little paint to teach the twat a lesson.

Mike, I was just going to say.
I do exactly the same. Parking lots are a pain!
I don't just park far away. I go to the farthest part of the parking lot that is generally vacant and remains so. Not even the car guards bother to follow me all the way back to my car.

I do this for all the reasons stated above, and it works for me.

I once walked right into the guy and his 50 kids nearly scratching my car. The kids just push open the door until it touches the other car. And there were many kids squabbling over who must get out first and really causing chaos. I walked up to him and asked him to control his brats because they almost scratched my car - I was waiting for him to be an ass so I could use my knobkerrie on him. Normally, I have found that the drivers are usually careful not to scratch the car next to them when opening doors, it's the useless passengers who have no cars that open doors without much care!!!! I open doors for my daughter, not only is it a good way to treat your female child, but it also saves me the pain of having her scratching people's cars... I even have the child lock on as additional measure!!

Nope, you're at greater risk where there are other cars and people around. If your car is alone in the middle of an open parking area, you'll easily see if someone approaches you.

I know it might make absolutely no sense, but I always feel a bit safer parking next to an expensive car - figure a thief will go for the fancier ride!
Or they'll reason the cheaper one is easier to steal, no tracking etc.

Yes, happened to me. I mistakenly left my door ajar to put something the boot. All of sudden a gust of wind and my door moered a big dent in my friends Sabura. R2500 later :(

I managed to have all the dents in the 2 cars removed today. Dent guy pointed out a 3rd one on my vehicle which I hadn't even noticed yet!

4 dents removed for R550 and my OCD is at peace again.

Found one on my driver door, my car is just over 2 years old and in virtually immaculate condition - until that damn dent. Now to find someone in Durban who can sort it out at a reasonable price :/
