Deprecation warning (LottaNZB)

Hi

I am running Mandriva Linux 2010. When running LottaNZB i get the following message when choosing the Stand Alone option:

Deprecation warning: the md5 module is deprecated; use hashlib instead.

What does this mean and how do I get to use hashlib?

It simply means that LottaNZB is compiled to use a old module. You could contact the developers of LottaNZB to correct the problem. Or, if it is an opensource project, you could try it yourself, if you are a programmer.

If you cannot fix this yourself, search Mandriva bugzilla for the answer or submit a bug report if there is none already.

Deprecated classes are not the end of the world, you could just ignore it, the app should run fine. Usually classes are deprecated because they have been replaced with better ones that perform similar/same functionality.

Not in my case. Googled it now and there is reference to this site which seems to have a fix:

Still a bit more work for me as I am new to Linux. A new learning experience.

found nothing wrong with hella and sabnzbd. kwooty not a bad client as well.

Some people, me included, don't like the way of controlling Hella and Sabnzbd through a web interface. The other available GUIs also seemed limited.

Keep in mind though that I'm coming from a Windows viewpoint where Alt.binz was just great, in terms of interface. I can see that these programs are powerful, but the interface just does not work for me.

Kwooty looks promising, but it's KDE And no, I don't want to install the KDE libraries

Hella is a load of ***** connecting to background daemons pfft. sabnzbd is ok, but i prefer self-contained apps that do it all, yenc decoding, par checking, unrar'ing etc..

What do you guys wanna control via the interface? I find Grabit a pain in the ass. I like that with something like hallanzb etc you can just save the .nzb to the directory and when you came back everything has been done for you. The interfaces available do most things like pausing or speed limits which is all i need. I had mayor issues with grabit where it does not seem to like the file numbering etc and fails to join/extract files, this never happens in linux.

Well, that is exactly why I didn't use Grabit, because it has the crappiest interface and is buggy. Alt.binz is way better.

This is exactly what Alt.binz does as well.

Anyway, interfaces are a matter of taste, if you like the way Hella does it, fine. So far I haven't found one on Linux that I like.

LottaNZB is in the process of being ported to the sabnzbd backend for those that are interested.
