Eskom is unstable and collapsing — Deputy President

South Africa’s deputy president David Mabuza has come out in support of Eskom CEO André de Ruyter, while energy and mineral resources minister Gwede Mantashe has slated him.
Got to admire how they've motivated, crafted and setup the narrative. Of course we all know it isn't the anc bombing eskom. No way that the ANC ever bombed anything or any person.

The ANC is singlehandedly responsible for South Africa's electricity problems because of its single-minded obsession with regulating and controlling everything. The private sector is ready and willing to sort this problem out yet the ANC can't stomach the thought of losing control of electricity production.

I dunno whether to laugh or cry.
Can someone please just sort this all out, or can the Mutha Guva just maar set fire to the whole lot, and we can keep warm for a day or two.

the ANC can't stomach the thought of a lot of things...
examples include whiteys running state organs, doing things properly etc...

De Ruyter said that maintenance projects that require the OK from treasury take an average 77 days to get approved. Mantashe could apply himself more usefully to get that down to a more resonable number.

Not entirely true. I think their biggest concern comes from the fact that all the paying customers would flock to any new provider, leaving Eskom without any income, and well, letting Eskom die, which in turns kills off the electricity for millions of loyal ANC voters. The non-payers won't be able to join the new providers as they'll have their power cut, which Eskom is too scared to do. So they need paying customers to subsidise those that think paying is optional.

I don't like or trust either of them, but I'd tend to believe the Deputy Prez over a former trade unionist with no prior knowledge of energy at all. Got to question him as to why!

I'm not sure exactly where the junction of maintenance lies between the municipalities and Eskom but I would imagine that power theft tends to occur in distribution which is handled by the municipalities? Eskom being responsible for generation and transmission?

Been hearing that since high school, all those decades ago, FW De Klerk's words weren't even cold yet...

Can someone just go argue a court case to allow the private sector to self provision already just like what happened in the telecoms sector. Heck, a solarcity type thing would work while they build up capacity.

The military is bored, get them to run security at the main power station.

I still wonder if this isnt anything to do with Mantashe trying to force through the powership deals without proper approvals. I remember it was all over the news and suddenly all that news has been deleted.
