Can anyone recommend a USB powered wi-fi dongle /adaptor?

On-line shop essential, as we are far from any shops that may sell this type of thing.

We are installing a new Desktop PC (which is not wi-fi enabled) in a place that is not close enough to our existing wi-fi router to use a cable connection. It is also not a practical option to move the router to another location

The PC does not have built-in wi-fi capabilities, and we want to use a USB-powered wi-fi dongle to be able to connect that PC to our home wi-fi

I guess what I need is something like this ...?

IMO a conventional wireless network card would be better for your application, cheaper too.

the attenas in a card will be at the back of your pc
so it signal will be blocked at the one size, the components have a affect on the wifi (graphics card, sound card, mother board etc)

with a ap u can put it on the wall or anyplace and just run a lancable from the ap to the pc
also if u ever need to take it with you ,just just unplug it and take it with you, where a internal card cant

a usb adapter is even more portable

and agree with musicmp3
wifi are unstable in general

i use a 50m+ cable (from the router to my room),the ap i got setup in AP mode so i can have wifi in my room ,so i can use it on my phone

my cable give me probs sometimes, that cuz i have a few connectors and the 50m are made up of 4smaller lent cables, and its outside (goes under the roof and trough a tree, then underground

so try to get ONE cable , will save u alot of frustration :p

I bought a cheapo WiFi dongle from matrix for 80 bucks (was too lazy to lay cable to the bedroom:)). works fine no issues. i even stream movie from my pi (in the living room) with no issues . i've had it for 3 years now.

not sure if matrix deliver though....

The PC we are getting does not have a wireless network card installed - I guess we should have ordered it with this wireless network card but it's too late now

It's no more than 10 meters, but we want to avoid cables. I would not have a clue how to make up a cable, and we have no expertise that I know of close to us

I was hoping for something like this ...

This is what I was hoping for .. I'll have a look at what I can get .. will have to be bought online, as I'm 140km away from the nearest shop that would sell that kind of thing
