My car was written off recently due to an accident and I am driving a rather dodgy car which lacks all the luxuries that come with a German sedan... :) ... until I can afford another one

.

please dear god don't tell me the presence (or lack thereof) of a cup holder will influence your decision on what car you buy

when you spend a lot of time driving around, it is actually quite important. I need somewhere to place the water bottle while driving, that does not involve me holding it in some format.
And that is a close second to having working aircon in the vehicle.

Some days I can spend as much at 4 hours driving around, and I'm not talking about peakhour driving...

If you're spending 4 hours drinking water while driving, you'll be needing something to piss in too.

have you guys noticed that in most German cars cupholders seems to be an after thought, maybe they hinting at something :)
I am too afraid of using the cupholders in my car because it is right behind the MMI controllers and if i had to stop abruptly the force of inertia will send the liquids forward over the controller buttons. I do however use the bottles holders in the doors. I most have a bottle of water with me.

I am a car guy so I have to ask, what car is this ?
The lay out seems interesting. The round cover in front of the gear level I take thats your 12V sockets but whats next to it ? USB? and AUX?
You are right about the 12V socket in the middle. To the left is a USB socket with one of those tiny 32GB Sandisk drives in it, on right is the auxiliary in stereo jack.

For more on this car check out this posts and the ones that follow as I post any noteworthy updates I encounter during my ownership of this car in that thread.
