Details of VIN number and financing / RC1 differing

Hi, in 2013 I bought what I thought was a 2011 Kia Picanto 1.2 Ex, and while I never saw the RC1 motor vehicle certificate, the financing was approved through the dealership, and the details on the financing for the car has been for this model (and I used one of the larger financing companies). I am now in the process of selling the car and learning a lot more than my ignorant younger self, but after running the VIN number it seems to be indicating that my car is an actual Kia Picanto 1.1 Striker. I am a bit concerned as I am trying to sell the car fast, and will only get the RC1 late next week or the next. Assuming the RC1 shows the details of the car being a 1.2 Ex, will this affect my ability to sell the car? And I am assuming that the VIN number is likely to be more accurate than the RC1?

You may lose a few thousand. I'm not familiar with these models and with a quick google they kinda look the same so an easy mistake to make if misled by the dealer. I'd guess between R2000 to R5000 so not the end of the world as far as cars go. Could have been signficantly worse if it was a more expensive vehicle.

You have two options:
1. Write it off as school fees
2. Take the dealer to court if you feel you have enough evidence that the dealer sold you something different to what you paid for - and what was advertised.

Yeah, the RC1 does not show detailed model specs. (More like general model series.)

Anyway, perhaps you are entitled to a claim under CPA rights - who knows?

Where did you “run the VIN number”?

Good chance that information is quite generic and incorrect.

No big deal, you were just scammed the first time since what was thought to be a 1.2 EX might have been more expensive than a 1.1 Striker, besides that the car papers will have the correct information.

This.

The striker is like an entry level model almost with some trim upgrades iirc. The ex is the fancy model with mags, electric windows, fog lights etc.

So which car do you actually have?

Thanks all! The main concern was whether it would affect the sale, from answers seems like I should be fine. I am going to just go with the details provided by the VIN number, seems the safest.

I checked using a SA vehicle valuation site and an international site, both seemed to match in the details provided.

Well do you have all the fiddly bits that come with the EX or not?

That’s anyone cares about on a second hand car in this class, that it has the features.

So which one do you actually have? That will be more important than what is written on a piece of paper.
The easiest solution is to call the kia parts department and give them you vin and ask them to check what their system says it is.
