Anyone still play?

I recently started playing on the ladder on USEast. I also have an account on USWest back from my 1.09 days (a friend kept the characters alive along with his own account every 90 days), but I don't really play there anymore as they're not ladder characters.

I've been having lots of fun actually. Apparently runes are the new currency. I've found it much easier to get access to high level stuff this time around. My barbarian is already wearing the full Immortal King set, for instance.

I'm also working on a dual claw assassin and a sorc for MF. A bone-spear necro also looks like fun. :D

But I still have quite a bit of learning to do, the game has changed so much since 1.09 it's not funny.

The new runewords are unbelievable, and SoJs are becoming more scarce on the realms. Hence rune currency :) Full IK set rocks. Unfortunately I stopped playing realms after losing a couple of characters to bad networking... it's a problem considering I only play Hardcore. *stutter*stutter*hey where'd those glooms come from*Your deeds of valour will be remembered*

What kind of dual-claw build are you going for? Phoenix?

Cool, I play as well, but I haven't tried the realms in many months. I also got into some aggravating cases where I was trapped by supposed allies.

Let me know if we can hook up sometime...

Only thing that bugs me about full IK is that you have a really low AR and without a shield, you're really defense dependent. As a result, Iron Maiden hits you particularly hard (as beserk sets your def to 0).

Of course, I might just be a little too used to the good life. My 1.09 druid had 4k life and 95% DR with 75% blocking, he'd fury right through iron maiden and leech more life than he lost. :p

The assassin I'm planning has 5 in Burst of Speed, 5 in weapon block, 20 in claw mastery, 20 in dragon claw, 20 in phoenix strike, 20 in venom, 1 in death sentry, 1 in shadow master, 1 in mind blast, 1 in cloak of shadows and 1 in dragon flight. (this assumes a level 98 character, which I probably won't get to. I'm planning on upping venom last.)

I'm planning on using the Natalya's Odium set, as it makes it possible to get max DR (50% in 1.11) without forcing you to use a shield or to resort to something like a shaftstop (which aside from the DR, isn't all that great as armour goes).

And ya, the lag does suck. It seems to affect everyone though. I suspect Blizzard is paying less for the d2 server bandwidth these days.

Low AR doesn't matter if you can socket Crusher with a Jah and put a point into Battle Cry. It's only one point off the prereqs for BO anyway. Otherwise Angelics should be able to deal with AR.

I'd never use something like the Crusher around OKnights anyway, too easy to come across manaburn on Hell. Paranoid... :D

In 1.09 the dr cap was 75%.. not 95%

Sets and uniques have basically become useless. New ladder runewords are far superior

Also if your doing uber runs, a smite paladins is your best char to use ( where in previous version they kinda sucked unless ya went for pvp )

For mf runs, use a hammerdin ( they suck in uber runs btw) they can do around 12k-14k damage per magic hammer now ( roughly 7 minimum on screen when ya cast, so that 7x 14k damage ya do :p )

For PvP it was 75%, for PvM it was 95%.

err nope. pre-1.09 it was 95% after 1.09 got reduced to 75% and in 1.11 its 50%

the elemental res is 95%...98% i think is max in 1.11 ..and then you can use absorb x element ..physical is as stated above

dr cap at 50 would explain why Shafts suddenly became so much less popular. Then again, the only uniques/sets that mean anything lately are the accessories... jewellery, belt, boots, gloves. Some exceptions, such as HoZ for pally, maybe SS for shields, the 'sin claws and Arreats for barb.

Imo, hammerdins are nowhere near as controllable as a decent sorc and not as much fun as a melee char. The positioning nonsense gets to me after a while. And hammerdin also requires the most seriously high-end (read:expensive) gear in the game to reach that 14k dmg...

I played extensively in 1.09. That's when I started playing on the realms. I built a druid with 95% damage reduction, and I know it was 95% because the damage I took from attacks were 1/20th of what I took without my gear or when I was hit with amp damage.

I also know that I took alot less damage when wearing a vamp gaze instead of Jalals mane.

PvP was 75% though. Druids changed out vamp gaze for jalals, barbs used arreats instead.
