Diagnostics software and hardware - where to get?

Hi Guys

We are looking at purchasing some diagnostics software for vehicle diagnosis. We are also looking at getting data cables for VW and Mitsubishi.

Anybody have an idea where I can get these?

Not to be nosy, is this requirement for professional diagnostics or for home use.
If for home use, you can have the following two tools for free if interested.

There are also plenty of handheld OBD2 readers available nowadays.

How old is the VW you need it for? If it's a Golf V or newer, you'll need a CAN-Bus cable. For anything else, OBDII will do.

@All - the cars in question is a 2006 VW Sharan 1.8T and a 2000 (I think) Mitsubishi Pajero.

Pajero is not starting at all, I need to get the software+hardware and ship it down to the Eastern Cape for the mechanic to use.

We also plan to use the software+hardware later on when we need to diagnose faults/problems on the cars as we want to DIY most of the time.

Oh, that diatek.co.za guys are absolutely useless... sent a ton of emails, nobody answered it.

Highveld Garage Equipment helped me with the procurement of a bluetooth dongle.

Will be going to the Eastern Cape the second week of April, will see what we can pick up. The Mitsubishi Pajero is in the EC, it is just not feasible to tow it all the way back for a diagnosis.

Works fine as expected, with the Windows version of ODB Auto Doctor.
Identified a possible sensor problem with the Sharan.

As for the Pajero... we plugged the ODB dongle in (took a while to find the ODB data port...), but got a message saying "cannot access ECU, switch on ignition".

Turns out the Pajero's original ECU got disabled when a Spitronics ECU was installed. So we phoned around for a Spitronics technician, found one in George, and took the Pajero there.

The technician did some basic tests, and announced that the spark plugs are dead. We bought new ones, replaced them, and the car started first go. Experience and knowledge at its finest. A big shout out to Supertune in George for assisting us with this.

Miffed at lazy mechanics who promise to do things, but never do it as it's a schlepp to replace the spark plugs on a Pajero - you need to remove the throttle body and the intake manifold before being able to access the spark plugs...
