Pothole Patrol — new app to report potholes in Johannesburg

The City of Johannesburg has released its Pothole Patrol App in partnership with Dialdirect and Discovery today, which will allow residents to report potholes using geolocation technology.

Users can pin their location and upload images to pinpoint pothole sites accurately.

on a related note: there was a hole in the road near fourways gardens that was getting bad, so jhb sent their guys out to fix the road. they stripped off about 10m (or more) of the old tar and put new tar.... except on a piece just after where the hole was that is about 2m x 20cm (essentially creating a mini ditch across the road). wtf.

No, but imagine a bakkie full of black guys arriving on your street at a push of a button. Something sticky will come out of there, and i bet it wont be tar.

Yes, I think it was said insurer, which is why this time around I am somewhat puzzled. Previous effort was shut down. I don't remember the reason.

The fact that this initiative exists is another massive indictment on the ANC ... not that the ANC will see it like this. No doubt that part of the budget can now be earmarked to cadre tenderpreneurs. So good news!

I think it was shut down because the city felt they were circumventing 'the process' / didn't want to be upstaged.

I would have liked to know what was the reason for ANOTHER app that does the same thing if they already had an app for it? Could MyBB maybe follow up?

It's easier to market an existing app to encourage people to use it, rather than build a brand new one....

Potholes that's fckall the last donga/ Grand Canyon I saw was on the R26.
TRUCKS were being swallowed up.
Actually the whole road is gone. Just mine dumps, mine shafts and an abandoned vehicle here and there.
Some lost French tourists wandering around begging for food and water after destroying their hire car.

Deja vu.. for Jhb this was already done a few years ago including direct reporting and there is always metro reporting via WhatsApp.

Reporting isn’t the issue so much as repairing which stretched allegedly. Also city municipalities can also plug into Waze to get this and other info from the system. I think Uber does the same vs traffic.

Useless app doesn't even allow you to pin a location. You have to be on top of the pothole to report it.
