im a very strong advocate for doing what you love. doing what your hobby is/was. I mean, it wouldn't feel like work right?

I'm starting to think I was wrong. I love what I do so much and I'm so passionate about it that other people who don't feel the same way about their work really pisses me off. Wasting my time, aggravating me because they don't listen when questions are answered or never appear to learn out of their mistakes.

I take my work way too personally. Did you think i made a mistake? did you?

I always wanted a career in music. Preferably playing an instrument in a band... maybe the drums or bass guitar.

But alas, I'm stuck in IT at the moment. Although, I am aiming to purchase a drumset sometime this year and start playing as a hobby and take it from there. You never know what might happen :D

Some people live to work others work to live.

As long as I get to work as little as possible and have plenty of free time (and cash) to spend with my friends and family it's all good.

What if you don't really know what you are passionate about?

If you're anything like me you get hooked on different hobbies throughout the year.

I've wanted to be everything from a lawyer, psychologist to a graphic designer to an interior designer.

I landed up in publishing !

Yes that is my problem too. You find everything so interesting that you get bored with what you currently do.

+1000 i'm in your boat.

If work were a good fun thing to do they would have charged for it not pay you to do it.:D

I enjoyed what I do, when it was a hobby. When it's work it's not so much fun.

Not that I think I made a mistake in my career choice, but I am getting tired of it and every now and then contemplate changing careers.

What's it like and what department are you in? I'm currently studying it, so a glimpse into what lies ahead would be appreciated.

It's a cuthroat business with a lot of prima donnas but for the most part i enjoy it. It has it's ups and downs like any industry i guess and i'm in the production side of things. So i help layout the magazine and i proof read it and i chase up advertisers. So yea i do a little bit of everything as you are kinda expected to do if you land up in the production department. :p that's just the way it goes.

oh and P.S when deadline hits be prepared! It's like a battlefield and uphill struggle to get things out on time and people aren't always that co-operative. Deadlines have to be the worst. After that it's smooth sailing again. :p

Kinda sounds like I thought it would. But tell me, is there any monetary reward for all that effort?

Yep... although in my case I was doomed by ending up in a technical high school and then after the army doing an apprenticeship, by then I did not want to do what I was apprenticed as. My "career" has ben a litany of disaster and I wish I had been able to go to sea instead. Sigh.

That generally depends on which publication you work for and what your job title is. When you start out you really get paid peanuts. But you can build yourself up and earn really good money. All about perservance and dedication. It really does pay off.
