Hoping this is the right section...

Any recommendations on a digital camera, my budget is about R1500 - IF you recommend a specific model please try and tell me why and what you like about the camera - thanks.

My only tip is to go for a decent make... Canon, Panasonic, etc. Also, on that sort of budget, look for a cheap decent 2nd hand one? I bought an Ixus 60 for R900 over a year ago... perfect condition.

Got the missus a canon powershot 560 for Christmas. No IS but it has everything else plus an optical viewfinder which means I can use it too. :)

Cost was r999 from incred corruption.

Have a look at a New World store. They have a wide variety of cameras for decent prices (around 10-20% cheaper than Incredible Connection) and offer a decent warranty.

Thanks for the input so far guys...

So far my options seem to be:

Sony - W Series - DSC-W35 - 7.2 mega pixel
http://www.sony.co.za/product/dsc-w35?site=hp_en_ZA_i

Pros - I can get this at dealer cost from Rectron - with vat its R1495 or some such and it has a Lithium ION Battery.

Cons - Memory stick is sloooooooooooooow and expensive.

----------------------------------------

Cannon A560 Digital

R 1,399.95 - Incredible Corruption

Pros - known brand, decent camera. Cheap memory.

Cons - Supporting incredible corruption - 2x AA batteries (ARGGG)

----------------------------------------

FUJI A900 9&4
R 1,399.95
http://www.incredible.co.za/services/catalog/moreinfo.asp?sku=62263

Pro: cheap memory - dont know anything about this camera :p
Cons 2x AA batteries AGAIN.

----------------------------------------

FUJI F480 DIGI CAMERA
R 1,499.95
http://www.incredible.co.za/services/catalog/moreinfo.asp?sku=62874

Pros: cheap memory. Lithium-ion battery.

Cons: dont know camera.

-----------------------------------------

I would go with a Canon - if you know someone with an account at Drive Control in JHB, get them to buy it at cost.

What are you going to do if your sony runs out of juice during a night out or a weekend away?

At least with a camera that uses AA's if you run out you can buy more . . . anywhere. The rechargeable one's I use (ok swear by) are r99 for four and often come with a charger.

How long do they last? and where do you get em from ? brand etc?

Will go for the canon then tomorrow as thats where the response seems to be - any alternatives anybody can point out....? not so keen on canon since i tried to navigate their website but meh :p

Thanks
