The BBC's view,
I see Matabane supports the idea that these plans need to be accelerated within businesses. He supports the Dischem CEO, and is in the view that the CEO took a stance where others in the business are gatekeeping the status quo.
Dischem’s board did seem to agree with the state’s plan in their response to the media.
“Dis-Chem stands by the unequivocal imperative to continue its transformation journey. Equality and diversity are important to Dis-Chem and the group continues to make great strides in ensuring it maintains progress in this area. It is a proudly South African business which promotes inclusivity and representation of all South Africans in their capacity as key stakeholders,” the company said.
I still don't believe that Solidarity will succeed in petitioning Dischem. Taking this high up, the Constitutional Court will lean to Dischem. Boycotting Dischem will also achieve nothing.
As I always said, should you be challenged by these policies, go seek opportunity elsewhere. This is not going to change.
Businesses, with relevancy, agree. Just see the ICASA regulations on ownership.
