So why does the work access card still work with bank card next to it
You sure that work card is NFC and not RFID? They're similar but definitely not the same.
From what I've seen RFID is mostly used in SA. (I tried hard to get my phone to emulate my 2 work cards so I wouldn't need to carry them around. No dice, wrong system).

Or, maybe the current / latest readers have fixed the multi card limitation. It definitely used to work, er not work.

Yeah, NFC lives inside RFID if that makes sense.

Bank Cards use RFID (including NFC) to operate whereas door access cards are usually just NFC or something else altogether I can’t remember now.

So likely that would be the difference.

That being said our NFC door readers also aren’t happy when you bring multiple tags too close to it at ones and you need to be sure to be very specific when tapping to use only the correct one.

An RFID-shielded wallet makes far more sense than trying a hack…not that it’s a concern in the first place.

So ideally you will need two of the same tech or cards to confuse the system.

Well I’m sure there’s an app to clone your card or even debit R200 from it and all they need to do is tap their phone onto your wallet

And how often do people get that close to you without you noticing?

Also it doesn’t work like that. You can’t just clone the RFID and use it somewhere else.

Even without a RFID-protecting wallet it’s very hard to get a clean read.

You do realise it's not you that carries the money risk, it's the merchant or bank? You'll just have to report card stolen, log log a dispute and you get your money back
Hi there. I just read the reply you wrote and wanted to ask you a question. " Would you have liked to have been given the choice in whether you wanted it or not" and then what if they bank came up with an excuse as to why they won't refund you. What would you do then?

Tap to pay is awesome. They should implement tap-to-phone soon.

No, you can't use the info from tap and pay for online transactions.
From Capitec's site:
If it doesn't get transmitted then how can transactions take place? Your account number and CVV doesn't get transmitted during regular swipes as well yet card skimming is real. The point is the card number does and can be used online without a CVV.

Unless you ever need to do something like get cash at an ATM..

I was at a mall yesterday - ABSA, 6 ATMS, no queue. Nedbank, 4 ATMs no Queue, Standard, 4 ATMs no queue.

Capitec - 1 ATM, i counted 48 people in the queue and it looked longer when i walked back. I'de never touch them.
Because it's the bank that attracts the people who mostly use cash. It's also related to the time of the week. It costs like R2 more per R1000 to withdraw from another ATM which last time I checked was still cheaper than withdrawing from other banks' own ATMs. But really I see no reason to use large amounts of cash in the first place.

Tap with your phone, leave your card at home, sorted
Until for some reason tap and pay doesn't work like the other day and we had to insert the card.

For starters, when i asked them do I get Priority Pass or LoungeKey for airport lounge access I got a blank stare. Since I'm in them so often I really didn't want to pay for a full lounge subscription.
Then I asked what car hire and hotel group discounts do their Mastercards do (Mastercard World Citizen gets major discounts at Standard Bank) - and again nothing.
I applied for a homeloan - Standard Bank beat Capitec's interest rate.

Granted, not all banks are perfect. I know SB does not work for some, and FNB works for others. And ABSA still for others. I just found Capitec did not give me what other banks did. Just my simple old Nedbank American Express card gives me more access to travel than anything from a lot of other banks.
That's your personal use case. Nobody at Capitec has any use for those so why make banking transactions more expensive to pay for it?

Joke’s on them.

I have no idea what my banking password is.
Joke's on you trying to convince them of that.

Asked via secure chat and received this reply:

"Please note that we can’t disable contactless, we can merely enforce the PIN to be prompted. Please allow 24 hours for the change to be affected the client must do at least 2 online transactions so that the Chip can be updated accordingly. (e.g. ATM Withdrawal, ATM Prepaid Purchases)."

A bit less convenient than without the pin, but it seems safer in a case where you lose your card.

You just message them on the app.

Takes all of two minutes.

And even when you don’t pretty much nothing happens anyway.
I messaged my banker on the app once.

I wonder if i'll get an answer now that it's a year later...

Bankers don’t reply on the app last I checked, there’s a dedicated team for it and they get to you near instantly.
