There is a service station next to Northgate Estate on Koeberg Rd (Cape Town) which gives a 25c discount per liter of diesel on Sundays. It's not much I gather, but is that legal? Is the price of diesel and petrol not regulated - Ackermann tried to sell cheaper fuel once and he was shut down. Or is this now coming into place?

Diesel's retail price isn't regulated. The SASOL service station in Rosebank sells diesel at between 35c and 50c per litre less than most others, and as a bonus that's SASOL's new 10ppm go-go juice.

The Caltex on Malibongwe sells their Diesel for cost on Tuesdays I think.. Something like that. Don't know, don't drive a diesel.

Here in DBN there is a garage in Umbilo that sells diesel @ R12.98l before the increase R12.66l my dad fills up there every week

That would be the Truck Stop on Sydney road. R12.99 per litre atm.

They have another location in Mariannhill that sells for the same price. Only 500ppm, and you have to contend with the trucks to get into the filling station, but they have a seperate pump for "small" vehicles thankfully so you don't have to sit in the queue.

Could also try biodiesel - even cheaperer

Biodiesel is a great idea, but we still have a fair number of "backyard" manufacturers, and that stuff can be damaging to your engine, and difficult to get your hands on.

Cool, where is the Sasol in Rosebank? I will start filling up there. Are Sasol the only ones that do 10ppm? I am sure that will be much better for my car too!

On Jan Smuts heading towards Zoo Lake from Rosebank's side, on the left under pretty much the last big building before those two sweeping bends heading towards the zoo. Right by Minty's Tyres.

In Durban the Shell by PnP Hyper by the sea sells diesel cheaper than petrol. I've heard the Engen (ex Zenex) by Riverside Hotel is also quite cheap. Haven't filled up there though. Don't like filling at truck stops.

The BP at Northwold, Randburg has 50 ppm diesel everyday for R13.77. I think it is a good price as Ive been paying more than R14 since January this year. Any other good diesel prices you are aware of?

When I still had a diesel, the cheapest I could find was at that service station just across the bridge on Modderdam, the blue logo, the name escapes me now

Just remember that if you drive a Eurospec 5 car you will damage your Particulate Filter if you fill up with 500 ppm diesel - just be very careful that the "cheap" diesel is also not the 500 ppm instead of 50 ppm.

If I lived in JHB, I would definitely be filling up with the 10 ppm at Sasol, despite disliking the company intensely! ;)

I put in Diesel yesterday, station just off hans strijdom (Solomon Mahlangu)

R13.55 per litre for diesel - Still over R700 to fill

Be cautious of garages offering notably cheaper fuel. It is not uncommon for uncrupulous dealers to dilute their fuels with cheaper mixes, such as bio-diesel or methanol, in order to reap the difference.

It's not that easy for Joe Public to test, unfortunately. If you're getting poor mileage out of a tank or your car is running below standard, you may be running on inferior fuel.

We are supposed to have inspectors for this, but as with most things in this country, who knows what really goes on...
