Also get gap cover as well. Not sure about their dental conditions.

Discovery's coastal core here. My kid had four wisdom teeth removed by a maxillofacial in hospital under general - had to pay a R4500 co-payment but even that was covered by gap cover.
Yap, coastal core + gap cover. That is the one I am busy signing up for...... I've been busy signing up the last 2 months, just need to complete the damn forms.

My wife just has so many issues that I struggle to word it.

Only time they will pay towards dental is if you get booked into hospital.

That's why it's good to have a independent Discovery broker that looks after you, they know how to work the system, the codes and all the complicated.

Good luck op, hope the infection subsides and you can wangle Discovery to contribute something.

I'd gargle with salt water once an hour to reduce the bacterial load in your mouth, it does help

I'm on the cheapest plan. It costs over 4k a month for a small family. It's essentially useless for day to day. The affordability scale is a joke too, if you make more than 13k you can expect to pay half that salary for a family.

Well that’s because the higher plans subsidise the lower plans so they purposely make it outrageous so that you upgrade to the next plan which is actually cheaper.

It does not work like that, the Medical Schemes Act prohibits subsididation between different options, each option has to stand on its own.

The CMS does (unofficially) alow limited cross subsididation in that it allows an option to run at a loss in certain instances, but this is very limited.

According to most medical aids, teeth are luxury bones that you need to pay extra to maintain.
