Discovery Bank clients experience the future of banking, now

I have to admit, saw yesterday how effective Discovery was. A friend went on their site, registered a new account and within less than a minute of submitting the form, his phone rang. A Discovery agent went through the different options, then explaining the costs, did an agreement and told him to download the app and complete the application. In 20 minutes the account was approved and opened, now just waiting for the card to be issued and delivered.

As far as I know they may well be the only bank in SA allowing a client to open an account online, without the need to visit any branch or kiosk.

I also tried sometime early in August and it did not work that time for me. I decided to stick with Nedbank.

I did the whole application on the app without having to speak to anyone. Really efficient and they delivered the card next business day. You can even add additional cards on your profile and select who it's for (if you have discovery medical aid it's all integrated). I tried the same thing with Standard Bank and Absa and neither of them was successful with issues like OTPs not sending etc.

TymeBank does as well.. the visit to the kiosk is purely to do the FICA stuff and print the Card which gives you higher limits in the account... and given that the kiosks are in pretty much every PnP its something that everyone can do whilst doing something else productive as well.

Yeah, I applied online and I'm still waiting for my Discovery credit card. It's been about a year...

Not sure about Discovery, but the other big banks, under 18 the parent will open the account. Only from 18 years can the child open his or her own account.
