sigh..what is the cheapest official Discovery way of earning points for heart rates if you do crossfit type of exercise?
Browsing through Sportsmans website it seems the easiest way is the Polar H7 bluetooth strap that syncs to your phone and the Polar app? The Muvit is tempting but seeing as I'm on my third fitness device I want to get the true blue fully endorsed official 100% Discovery device

Do you think you will be able to keep at 70% of your max for 90 minutes? If not, getting it is probably not worth it.

Being that I'm lazy, where is the link to the official breakdown of the new points system?

In addition, we acknowledge that these points changes will impact our members on Vitality Active Rewards and we have therefore decided to recalculate every Vitality Active Rewards members' goal in order to account for these changes.

What does this imply? Should we now not log any points so that our weekly points are 0 and that on recalculation our goals will be low? Or are certain individuals just going to be advantaged or is the weekly goals going to be set differently from now on?

Well at the moment the watch is useless. Example I just sat in front of the tv, started a workout on the watch and just wiggled my wrist. Lo and behold 20 minutes later and I completed a "workout" with a 142 average heart rate, all while sitting in front of the tv. Its THAT inaccurate.
Sorry and I meant kettlebell not crossfit exercise.

I can probably manage 80% for 30mins at a time without too much problem. That would mean 4 workouts a week to get the maximum 1200 points. Then again I've never measured my heart rate while exercising so I have no idea what 80% means.

Another mail from Discovery, this time pointing the middle finger at Strava.

Vitality Active Rewards has been Vitality's most successful benefit to date. And while early data shows an average increase in physical activity of 21% among members, the support of a broad range of apps and devices has also highlighted certain issues regarding data reliability. We are therefore refining how you can earn Vitality points using fitness apps and devices.

As reported by many of our members, Strava integration has been problematic this year resulting in poor user experiences. In addition, we are no longer able to support third party integrations or devices that allow self-reported data. At this stage, verified and self-reported data on Strava cannot be differentiated on our platform and we are therefore in the process of discontinuing this method of integration from the Vitality programme, effective 2 April 2016.

If you have a Garmin or Polar device that is linked to Strava, you need to link directly to Vitality to continue earning Vitality fitness points.

If you have a TomTom or SUUNTO device linked through Strava, please log into our website and link your device before 18 March 2016.

Device and app partners will be reviewed on a regular basis and added when all the relevant criteria are met.

For any queries related to fitness devices and apps and achieving Vitality fitness points, you can visit our Vitality Support page. You can also view your own personalised Vitality Dashboard and get a snapshot of your current Vitality Status, Points and Benefits.

Get active. Get rewarded.

Regards

Discovery Vitality

Do you mean swap for a non HR fitbit and refund the difference in price?

Iyou bought a Fitbit Charge HR or Fitbit Surge purely to measure heart rate in order to get more Vitality points and do not want to wait for a systems resolution, we can exchange your Fitbit Charge HR or Fitbit Surge for a chest strap that tracks heart rate that you can link to your smartphone. If you purchased your Fitbit HR device and linked it to Vitality between the period of 22 September 2015 and 31 January 2016, please email us before 31 March 2016 for more information on our exchange process. Please note this is a once-off offer.

Sounds like it will be a Polar Strap H6 or H7 that you will use with Polar Beat app.

Just tried it now sitting on the couch. You can set it to timed intervals and it does read out the avg hr as the last stat. No visual notification though.
At least it can update you once a minute (most other apps only 5min or 10min ect). Seems good enough for now.

Sounds like a good deal, swapping a R2600 or R4000+ wrist worn HRM device for a R1000 chest strap HRM ;)
