Ok ... I am writing this in the hope that someone at Vodacom in a senior position reads this and actually cares enough to address this issue , because , despite my best efforts , I cannot reach anyone at a senior level there.

I have had a business contract with vodacom themselves since 1995.. and AVERAGE monthly use has been R1400.00 over that time. I am not one to get upgrades at every opportunity , but having had my old 6230 for close to 3 years , I felt it was time to upgrade. I walked into a Vodacom branch (in Cresta ) to be told that there was no stock of the N95 and that I would have to pay in R2100.00 anyhow for the pleasure of using one. Right next door , Cell C told me that if i wanted to sign Talk 500 contract ( lower that what i am with vodacon / m ) I would get the phone for free , and whats more showed me units in stock. After going back to the Vodacom shop , I was told there that I must change to Cell C if I wanted , as vodacom are oversubscribed anyhow !!!

My PA and I then spent close to an hour on the phone with vodacom , eventually getting someone to grudgingly agree that I could have the phone with no payment.

Having previously read up on the battery problems , I resigned my contract, and sent in a faxed order , stipulating a 1200mah battery , as I was told that this would solve the battery problem. This took place on the 27 Sept.

My "new" cell arrived on the 1st October.. As I am aware of charging batteries properly , I leave it on charge the whole of the 2nd , and on the morning of the 3rd , I try to use it. It stays offline all the time , and despite several calls to various "Helplines" it does not work.

I then go to another Vodashop , who are so eager to help me , they try to backup all of the contacts on my present sim card , only to double them ... and they then try the N95 and tell me its faulty.

Another 20-25 mins is spent on the phone to vodacom , to be told that they will send the courier co. out to collect , and that the faulty cell has to be returned to vodacom before a replacement can be sent , we asked to speak to a manager to be told that NO there is no one else here to help you , the managers are too busy , and will say the thing. I then offered to take the cell back to them myself , and was told that they will not deal direct with the public.

The courier co. collected on the 4th in the afternoon.
It is now the afternoon of the 6th , another call to vodacom , to be told that the faulty phone is still with the courier co. , and that I will get the replacement 3 - 6 working days from the time it ever gets back to Vodacom.

I cannot even get to speak to a manager there to complain , not that they give a damn anyhow , I am hooked up to another 24 months of BAD service , and never mind the fact that after reading about others experiences with the N95 , I have far worse still to come.

I would be keen to see if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Thanks Tony... I was told by the second vodacom shop i went to
that the phone was not reading my sim card , and that they had
come across this problem before on new N95,s.

Vodacom has a policy that within the first 7 days they will replace
the phone if you send it back to them.

10th of October , and i still have no idea where my replacement phone is ,
despite several call to vodacom.

The N95 is not really all that bad. I've had mine now for a few months, and ok the battery life is not good at all. I'm charging mine every night and also got a car charger. The GPS kill the battery in 4-5h, mp3 player 5-8h, heavy call usage less than a day, standby 2-3days.

Still with all the feature it's kinda expected. The HTC TYTN is not much better.

This just gets better and better...

Have just called 111 to be told that my faulty N95 has now been returned.
I now have to resign the contract again before they can send out the replacement phone... ?????????

And wait another 3-7 working days for the phone to arrive.

And yet again , cannot get hold of anyone in a senior position to explain

mine n95 sometimes don't readmy vodacom sim card as well, so when that happend i tested on other phone as well and it still doesnt read my sim card, and my sim card was only a month old (had sim swop last month), so whoever that told u its the n95 problem they r BS you, its the problem with the stupid voda network, the reason im saying this is becoz i had the same problem with my previous n73 n80 w850i phone not reading sim card, and it cant be all of my phone is faulty ..

It's who you know. I think the big lesson in life is to stay calm and just try deal with it. Not so easy when you in the situtaion and you are ready to rip someone's head off.

The point I would make is this kind of thing should rarely happen. We shouldn't have to call in the forum rep or the most senior guy, this should be sorted out in the lower rungs - like supervisor. It just underlines my point that service levels are deliberately set at the lowest possible 'spend nothing' levels in SA.

The problem is with Vodacom branding the phone. I had someone asking me for help the other day also with a N95 that had problems with it. His phone was Vodafone branded. So I told him to use Nokia Software Update to reinstall the latest version of the firmware. After he did it he thanked me because there was stuff on his phone now that wasn't even there on the Vodafone branded software.

His phone is working 110% now.

You are joking right? Hellopeter is a crook...he's worse than the worst of them! Just read the news articles in the archive...

I only make the above statement in regard to the good service I have received from vodacom after posting my complaints on Hellopeter.

Wether he is a crook or not, my issues were addressed by the right people at vodacom and they were resolved quickly and satisfactorily.

Use it, dont use it.
