Exactly, with our child Pampers gold would not last the night, but Huggies dry comfort worked wonders. Nothing worse then waking up and having to wash bedding before work because the nappy couldn't hold the liquid.

Pampers Gold? you mean pampers premium or hugies gold dont think thers a pampers gold

Pampers economy dry night nappies at Game for R280 about twice a month (one week at R360, next week at R280 etc). You wont get cheaper and they really good quality. This is for 144 or 156 size 1 nappies.

Don't buy too much of the number 1 size. Your baby usually only fits in those a few weeks. Or if you get a good deal at a reputable dealer you could exchange the excess sealed packs.

We have only used Huggies Gold on our 22 month old princess. Most of the time I buy at Toys R Us or Reggies. The numer 5 is R160 per Jumbo pack whereas most other stores sell at R180+.

Dischem, Game, Clicks, Toys R Us/Reggies usually have good specials and combo deals. Combo deals as in two packs for cheaper of two packs and some wipes for cheap.

Toys R us had one, not a brand name, that we use to buy back in 2005. Its been a few years, so I don't know if they still sell them. But they were where the price and quality came together.

My sister use to seek out the closest wholesaler and buy that Dryper nappies. She was happy with them, and she could afford the more expensive once, but choose not to.

we are using that pampers newbaby. when we get a special we buy packs. but sometimes it does leak and a change of clothes are required. thats not lekker. if it was so fabulous that wouldnt happen.

so we on the 1's now...

When the diaper leaks, it's either too big, or it's a particularly, errm, explosive diaper.

If you are on Discovery Vitality you get 10% discount on Nappies at Toys R Us / Reggies which are already well priced

+1 on that... and like everyone else says just shop around.

We need a thread "Disposable nappy bargains" or we could just use this one.

I can only comment on Pampers, those are the ones mandated by "the boss"...

They tend to be the same price for all packs of the same "weight", but the number of nappies in a pack decreases as you go up the size range, since the nappies are larger and less fit into a pack.

We've been on size 4 for a while now, and a good price is R2/nappy. So a larger pack with 70 nappies, I aim for R140 on special. Right now the SuperSpar around the corner has them for R156, which is close enough. (I bought a lot of 54 nappy packs when they were R100.)

We tend to keep an eye on prices at Spar, PnP, Clicks, Baby City and Dischem, and buy 4-5 packs when we see a special. As mentioned before, if you end up with too many packs of a given size, places like Dischem / BabyCity will generally swop it for the next size up.

But size 1 you don't use for long, and we've been using size 4 for many months now.

Each child is different. For my daughter huggies worked best where pampers leaked all the time. For my son it was the exact opposite. Hence we experimented with each of them to see what worked best.

OK, so here's my findings (for future dads and moms):
- For size 1 and 2 Game has no boxes - only value packs (usually 47 - 88 diapers per pack, sometimes look like two packs repackaged).
- Generally it seems as if Reggies is cheaper when it comes to size 1 and 2 diapers, then Game is the cheapest. Checkers is cheaper than Game for size 1 diapers (at least, today they were).
- If you have some Discovery Vitality discount vouchers you get a number of blocks per card - each block gives you 10% discount on Pampers or Huggies. If you then buy the bulk packs where they strap two packs together, it counts as one block on the card. Thus this will probably give you maximum discount. Looking at R1.62 per nappy for Pampers premium.
- No idea yet regarding Baby Boom and Baby City.
- Reggies = Toys R Us = Babies R Us

We ended up using Panda or Dischem branded nappies, once or twice there has been a leak or two but at 150 numbers a month it only costs us R240 and it's once in a blue moon.
