Seeing as I only use my XBOX for Playing movies (maybe ill play a game once a month, but I prefer my pc for that), I decided to logon to xbox live to see what's new....after downloading some updates and what not I see that they've got Youtube now on xbox too, so here I am downloading this youtube app on my xbox only to find out that you gotta be a gold member....whyyyyyy? Youtube is freely available on the net..and yet you want to make money from it...don't you have enough money already? I don't want to be a gold member just for you tube..... I don't care about the rest, it woulda been cool to have you tube on the Telli tho. I'm not moaning but probably spent an hour downloading some updates and the you tube app (512k) .... they could atleast have a notification or something to let users know before downloading that they need to be a gold member...waste of time...I assume the same principle will apply once Internet Explorer arrives....

Anyway...doesn't bother me that much, I can youtube anyway just woulda been cool ya know?

So you buy a R2500 machine to watch movies and then complain because you have to pay for features you don't use or never will?

Bought it in 2009 ... use to play games on the xbox 360 but not anymore, I have chilled down quite a lot in gaming, but enjoy the occasional game on PC...

I'm not moaning just dissapointed, if it warned me before hand it woulda been a different story, it's like that advert that we see on the TV (or hear on the radio?) where the oke sells coffeee but people have to pay for the cup/sugar/coffee...stuff that shoulda been included, that's all.... it's like buying a SMART TV only to find out that you have to pay subscription fees to use the internet on it (even though you are already paying for internet via means of telkom / isp etc)

But I guess that is MS for you...

I don't think Youtube was even available when you bought it. But it's primarily a gaming machine, and if you do take it seriously then you would have a Gold membership anyway. There are plenty of cheap media player devices that have built-in Youtube apps, and work much better than the Xbox as a media player anyway.

Thanks for the reminder. PS3 also has a Youtube Player. Should run smoothly now on my newly upgraded 1Meg line:D

Don't count on it, you'll still need to let it buffer a bit at the start :p

You bought the wrong console for your needs. PS3 makes a much better entertainment hub.

Had 2 of those devices and sold them both. Got 5 XBoxes. Way better machine for all round entertainment.
Then there is that nasty PS3 controller too.

The first few RROD on you?

*ducks*

For sure. The first Pro's were very susceptible to RROD.
MiDigital here in Edenvale had no issue with swap outs. When they were past the warranty period I paid in R600 and they would swap my broken console for a new one.
Since updating them all to Elites and my own to a new Slim the problem has not surfaced again. Only had it with the Pro's.

Only got 4 now. The 5th I was not using so gave it to a mate for his son.

Hehehe... because I'm open to suggestions, I might just give that a try... but just one problem I have with PS3... the controller... it's too damn small for my hands..otherwise a PS3 ain't too bad.

And the left thumbstick is in the wrong place - means your left hand is usually covering the left half of the controller trying to reach for it. And the rear analogue triggers aren't as springy. Basically the controller is just not as ergonomical as the Xbox one - the D-pad is better, but how often is that even used?

When I was looking at getting a console a few years back a big concideration was media streaming and using it for more than just playing games. I decided on the PS3 for the Blu-ray and some media streaming apps that my research turned up.
About a month later I went and got the 360 too, for the simple reason that the PS3 controller was driving me mad, it feels like the old PS1 controller. Long story short, the PS3 is gathering dust and I do all my media streaming and gaming on the X-box. <3

Not everyone has a hand disability but many are misinformed. ;)
