Cape Town - Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers says he is finding it tough to get a new job in the South African rugby fraternity.

De Villiers currently coaches the University of the Western Cape, who compete in the Varsity Shield competition.

However, his contract with UWC will end at the conclusion of this year's competition.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, De Villiers said he was being blocked "everywhere I go" in South Africa.

The 57-year-old is eager to again coach a top level team but said he was "not allowed to be part of rugby in this country anymore".

Despite finding it hard to find a job, the former Bok mentor said he still gets noticed when going out in public.

While going for a jog in Pretoria recently, De Villiers said he was stopped by petrol attendants who said: 'Hey coach, how are you? You are still the best'.

De Villiers coached the Springboks between 2008 and 2011. Before that he also coached the Falcons as well as the Junior Springbok teams.

He won 30 of his 48 Tests as Springbok coach, boasting a 62% winning record. His most notable achievements were coaching the Boks to a series victory over the British and Irish Lions in 2009, as well as the Tri-Nations title that same year.

This guy is so full of himself. If he's such a good coach, like he thinks he is, then people would be queueing up to hire him. The fact that they're not says volumes about his ability. But of course in his mind it must be because he's coloured and there's some sort of conspiracy against him.

Stop holding meetings in the parking lot.
He's probably the worst Ambassador we've ever had in rugby.

If he is getting ''blocked'' at every turn in South Africa then why hasn't he tried to coach overseas? Foreign clubs generally hold our coaches in high esteem, so if he is as good as he says he is then I'm sure a Japanese or English club would be keen on hiring him.

I feel there is a bit of racism involved but he really should go overseas most ex springbok choaches head overseas as soon as their time as sprinbok coach is over.

It has more to do with the fact that he is a complete ******* than his race.

I could have coached that Springbok team when he was in charge.

As I understand it was the senior players ran the whole show.

His press conferences would be enough to exclude him from coaching any serious club, I can just imagine the sponsors having heart failure.

The PR needed for damage control on his statements is simply too much work I suspect.

While going for a jog in Pretoria recently, De Villiers said he was stopped by petrol attendants who said: 'Hey coach, how are you? You are still the best'.

Now if only it was people knowledgeable about rugby who made this statement.

He should do commenting. Heard him on radio once and he was good. Actually knows the rules and understands the game, which is odd for most commentators, especially on TV.

He can't do worse than Bob Skinstad and AJ Venter.

You clearly do NOT watch SA Rugby my friend

Admittedly, I cannot get over my own conscience to pay multichoice R700/m to watch all the rugby, but every time I do, I find the commentators' understanding of the rules disappointing. The likes of Hugh Bladen and Joel Stransky are more cheerleaders who contribute to the atmosphere than actual understanding of the game.

I have a hard understanding what my friend's dad says and he has a hard time understanding De Villiers :erm:

I hope you have a hard time and not -on!
