Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has extended the national state of disaster by one month.

Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu announced that the government will extend the state of disaster by a further month at a press briefing today.

Dlamini-Zuma declared a national state of disaster under Section 27(1) and Section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002, on 15 March 2020.

The unlimited extensions would never pass constitutionality if challenged. Well at least now they have to deal with the legal challenge(s) and judgments although that’s probably going to be appealed ad infinitum.

Well now we see why CoVID was declared a state of emergency... I mean 700 people have died in over 3 months, countless people have lost their jobs, the taxes are drying up, but mama loves her power..

Never happened, unfortunately.

Anyway - the state of disaster will be extended until at least August 15 because the last of the school kids only return on the 3rd of that month.

This means Dlamini-Zuma can extend the state of disaster, one month at a time, for as long as she deems it necessary to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
And no public debate or discourse will be entered into. Just thumbsucking decisions. This is so stupid. Bet we'll see a petition tomorrow to get 500 000 signatures that won't change anything.
