Dlamini Zuma: Lack of skills & opportunities to blame for local govt corruption

The minister said failures of local government were an indictment on all spheres of governance.

DRAKENSBERG - Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma on Saturday blamed corruption and infighting in municipalities on the lack of skills and opportunities in local government.

“When you have a situation like that it creates problems and it encourages corruption or infighting [in municipalities], that’s why councillors get killed,” Dlamini Zuma said.

She addressed the second installment of the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation’s Inclusive Growth Forum gathering in Drakensberg, Kwa-Zulu Natal, where the country’s leading thought leaders, business and government officials discussed local government and its economics.

"blamed corruption and infighting in municipalities on the lack of skills and opportunities in local government."

Nope it's the other way around and not a chicken/egg paradox either. As for the lack of skills and opportunities, look no further than govt policies.

An irrelevant comment from an irrelevant has-been politician with a zuma connection.

Moving on, nothing to see here.

Yes poorly skilled political appointees result in higher levels of corruption.

I am seriously hoping that the commissions at least have a recommendation that administrative staff should not be appointed by politicians.

They aren't, but it does not mean the politicians cannot pressure whoever is doing the appointments.

Unemployment is blamed for so many things. Now employment is blamed. What is the solution? Let them all sleep and connect them to a Matrix world where they can do what they want.

Sometimes I think it's better to spend time in jail for not paying my taxes to avoid supporting trough feeders like this with my hard earned money...all they seem to do is blame and fight, deny and mismanage.

So here is the issue when you appoint on friends and family, BEE and AA instead of just plain old merit?
Take the person who can prove he/she/it can do the work and not who can do you a favor.
