Install java runtime from www.java.com ;) Not sure about the dll problem. Right click on the program or application and use Xp Service Pack 2 compatibility ;)

@snakepit: If you PM me your email address I can send you the DLL, it's part of Direct3D. I can't guarantee it will work though. :(

On the Java side, make sure you are downloading Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 (the file you want is jre-6u1-windows-i586-p.exe) and be sure to read the known bugs and issues for Windows Vista.

My advice is to install XP SP2 on that laptop and think about upgrading to Vista in a year's time. Unless you're being paid to test hardware and software compatibility on Vista, it is best avoided.

I managed to download the dll file and drop it onto my FMS directory, it works beautifully (although i keep crashing ma plane  )

i sorted out the java problem as well, i just needed to take some time to mull over the situation and it came to me :)
