When she saw her for the first time she just knew, this is my child she said, DNA is unnecessary

— Chantall Nurse

The parents of an abducted baby are happy to be reunited with their daughter after 17 years. DNA tests confirmed yesterday that indeed Zephany Nurse was born of Celeste and Morné Nurse . Zephany was stolen from her mother in Groote Schuur hospital when she was just 3 days old in 1997.

17 years later it happened that Zephany’s biological sister, Cassidy Nurse start attending the same school where Zephany was doing her matric. The resemblance of the two got other school children talking. The aunt, Chantall Nurse told Kieno that Cassidy came home one day and told her parents ‘there’s a girl who looks just like me at school’.

Zephany is currently under protective custody at an undisclosed location where only her parents are allowed to see her. Chantall expressed her joy now that Zephany has been found.

The family celebrated Zephany’s birtyhday on the 28th of April every year since her abduction, in her absentia and now they looking forward to celebrating her birthday this year where she will be present.

A woman was arrested for Zephany’s abduction and will appeared at the Cape Town magistrate court on Friday.

I feel so sorry for the poor girl. Cannot imagine how conflicting this all must be for her.

Still trying to wrap my head around how this is affecting the 17 year old girl.

To suddenly find out your parents are not really your parents and that you were abducted at birth.

I adopted a boy but he will know as soon as he can understand that he has other parents.

Bitter sweet emotions I am sure. She told her bio-dad, "I love you, I don't know why"... I hope GSD doesn't raise it's twisted head ;)

The sad thing is that this is probably worse for her.

Now she's in social services care with parents being jailed and her "real" parents are strangers to her.

I ask myself if leaving well enough alone wouldn't have been better.

Yes a crime was committed, but the damage done now is far worse 17 years later.

If she was your child that you just found? Would you feel the same?

So you prefer to appease criminal activities for the sake of keeping the status quo. Do you for one moment think this girl would not have prefered to know her own parents if she knew the truth?

You are all missing my point.

I'm not saying it shouldn't have been done, I'm just saying the girl is ultimately worse off for it in the here and now.

She had a presumably loving "fake" parents who were as good as her own for 17 years.

Now she is stuck in child services while waiting to be moved to complete strangers only linked by blood.

I can't help but think if you put all the other stuff aside about right and wrong the girl in the middle is ultimately worse off for it.

Not saying it shouldn't happen, its just a sad result.

I disagree. We do not know if she will be worse of and I believe she is happy. She even said she loved her sister and her bio dad and do not know why!

IMHO it's a joyous day for all except the criminal biatch thats collecting her payday.

Other sources say the real parents are (hopefully were) divorcing.

Going into a broken home sounds like a great start.

The B1tch was probably crazy and a horrible mother... who's to say it wasn't a bad situation and now she is going to a happier home

'I KNEW IT WAS ZEPHANY': COP

The moment he laid eyes on Zephany Nurse he knew she was the baby kidnapped in 1997, Lt-Col Mike Barkhuizen told Beeld newspaper in a report published on Thursday.

Barkhuizen, who works for the Hawks, had been searching for Zephany, now 17, for the past five years.

The results of the DNA tests were just a formality to him, he said. He knew instantly it was her after meeting her on the afternoon of February 24.

"I was very happy for the parents that their child had been found."

Zephany was found after her biological parents' second daughter, born four years after Zephany's disappearance, started grade eight at a school in Cape Town this year.

Classmates kept telling her a girl in matric looked just like her.

The two girls became friends and eventually the younger girl's father pretended he wanted to meet his daughter's new friend.

The likeness was remarkable and he approached the police. The older girl's parents could not show them any record of her birth.

They got permission to take DNA, and confirmed her identity. The mother who raised her will appear in court again on Friday.

I wonder what her "fake" name is because changing your name to Zephany would kinda suck.

Imagine how it went down.

Police:
We would like you to take a voluntary DNA test.
Zephany:
Why?
Police:
Ugh, this might come as a shock to you, but your Mom is not really your Mom.
