We're currently seeing DNS errors in Gauteng. Am in conversations with SAIX to resolve.

Has this SAIX problem been resolved yet?

In Gauteng only? No other problems?

I had a *brief* interruption on the HSDPA service in Houtbay tonight, came online after 2 minutes or so.

Much better than last week's fiasco though... ;)

There was work done last night that could have resulted in a reboot of some of the systems, this could be what you saw.

Thanks V3G. Why does this work take place during peak times? There must be an explanation....
Does it not make sense to do work during the quiet hours of the morning (1am-6am) to ensure as few clients are impacted as possible?

It just makes more sense to me, and benefits both the client and the company.

I had a few problems this morning here in North West, but everything seems to be fine now, except the vodacom4me site that tries to resolve to 255.255.255.255, quite a problem there ;)

V4Me is working again :D

You'll be amased at the number of changes that can happen in one night, and all these must be scheduled. So, depending on these schedules it can move forward or backward in the allocated timeslots.

Obviously, the idea is to not impact any users but then you buggers never seem to go to bed!! :)

You probably know it as that bouncy thing you use for extra storage....

Ohh that thing that has the colourful sheets, pillows and stuff? If that is what you are talking about, then my 3 cats use it more than I do. They permanantly sleep there

Ohh btw, v3g, do you know why the vodacom4me site sometimes tries to resolve to 255.255.255.255, it doesn't happen often, but it seems weird when I first get up in the morning to check on emails, and then I get presented with that error, and ofcourse I am very drowsy and just see numbers, then go back to "bed" to look at it later. It usually is fine after about 10 mins or so, would just like to know if it is related to the DNS errors.

Thanks. Thus far I have not seen a solid reason as to why these changes are happening during 'normal' hours...
I am familiar with change management and what it entails.
On a good day, we go through 10+ changes. In a week maybe 20-30 and even more.
Amaze me. :)

You must have pretty darn beeg time slots...

Small time slot per change x lots of changes = big time 'window'.

Sometimes these have to happen in a certain sequence. You'll know the worst way to do changes is to do them all at once. If something breaks, what do you roll back?
