I'm still having problems

I'm still having problems. I'm located in the Morningside area, just off Rivonia Road.

My (automatically) assigned DSN servers are 196.207.32.69 and 196.43.1.11

right now, i'm getting a bad gateway error when visiting www.ebay.co.uk

I had to go out and switched off my computer and modem. Since booting up on my return I have had no DNS problems and better speed. I am still using manual inputted DNS 196.207.32.69 and 196.43.45.190. So far so good.

Perhaps a dumb question for me to be asking considering uncontrolled disconnects etc, but those forumites still experiencing problems, have you disconnected & reconnected since last night when Vodacom thought they had finally fixed the DNS problems? - I'm thinking maybe Windoze is still trying to use defective DNS servers - note that Windoze will only pick up new automagically assigned DNS servers at the start of a connection...

If you follow this thread from the beginning you will note the extremes to which most of us have gone since Thursday to resolve this problem.

According to my info, the DNS errors was resolved last night, so I'm worried if there are still sporadic DNS problems being reported.

Yes, according to the technical guys they licked this and have stats to show it, so the've fixed something, but obviously not everything.

They're looking into it at the moment.

Currently the primary DNS servers assigned are the new Vodacom servers but the secondaries are still SAIX and it now appears as if the problem still lies here, with the secondaries.

We've escalated it to SAIX.

You should be getting the following DNS assignments, depending on where you connect to in the network:

Cape Town:
- Primary - 196.207.40.165 (Vodacom DNS)
- Secondary - 196.43.46.190 (Saix DNS)
- Tertiary - 196.43.34.190 (Saix DNS)

Midrand:
- Primary - 196.207.32.69 (Vodacom DNS)
- Secondary - 196.43.1.11 (Saix DNS)
- Tertiary - 196.43.42.190 (Saix DNS)

Pretoria:
- Primary - 196.207.32.69 (Vodacom DNS)
- Secondary - 196.43.45.190 (Saix DNS)
- Tertiary - 196.43.50.190 (Saix DNS)

If you're still battling try another secondary in your settings and let me know if it made a difference. Check that it's not a SAIX DNS server.

Below a list of SAIX DNS servers.

196.25.1.1
196.25.1.9
196.25.1.11
196.43.1.14
196.43.1.11
196.43.34.190
196.43.38.190
196.43.42.190
196.43.45.190
196.43.46.190
196.43.50.190
196.43.53.190
196.43.54.190

Hi V3G,
I am in the eastern part of Joburg. Doesn't Joburg get specific DNS? I am using those set out for Pta. Manually inserted.
I notice your post at 4H49. When this upgrade is finally debugged and installed, maybe you will be able to get a life. LOL

The country is divided into different 'regions' for different functions. We have the 3 'DNS' areas as posted above and you'll connect to one of them. The 'Pretoria' one obviously serves a much greater area than just Pretoria.

It took a while, but from my side the probem does seem to have been fixed. No Gateway errors since last night some time. Thanks!

Which regional DNS serves Durban? Feel like I'm in the last outpost sometimes.

ps. Best of luck fighting with SAIX. I understand banging one's head against a brick wall is substantially more productive.
