DNS Resolution on Telkom ADSL Accounts

Hi Guys,

I have been through all the threads and I am pretty sure this is not a duplicate. Let me know if it is...

Ok, so I have recently taken over a Telkom ISP account for my ADSL line at home. During the day, I require (non-bandwidth intensive) access to my servers from my office.

I use a DnsDynamic.Com account to get to my current live IP. This was working perfectly when I have a CyberSmart ISP account, as well as a test account from BitCo and Afrihost. Now with Telkom, the DNS address does not even resolve?

I have confirmed that all the settings on my router are correct, if I use the live IP direct into my apps, my connection is 100% So it is not a natt'ing problem from Telkom. I have also logged onto my managment portal of the DnsDynamic account, and it is receiving the updated IP correctly on that side too.

Question 1;
Is there anyway to ask Telkom to let this DNS resolve? Or is there any tricks I can try?

Question 2;
Is there any Telkom portal I can use to see my current connection details? I have used the "Account Tracker", but this only gives me usage stats etc..

Thanks MyBB Peeps!

Try simply changing your DNS server settings in your router from "Dynamic" to use Google's Public DNS servers.

The server IP's are:

8.8.8.8 (Primary)

and

8.8.4.4 (Secondary)

See if this helps, I use Google DNS often, as i have experienced a lot of issues with Telkom's servers.

You might want to think twice about using Google's DNS settings on a TI account!

Here are Telkom's settings... http://www.saix.net/cgi-bin/saix_dns.pl

To check your current Telkom DNS settings log into your router. If it is autoDNS then it should be pointing to 196.43.38.190 or 196.43.42.190. You can always disable autoDNS and manually assign these DNS settings.

If you don't come right, send a PM to ranger and ask him to assist you.

Hi MickZA

So after all my changes and faffing, it seems that DnsDynamic.Com was the problem all along. I have set everything back to automatic / Dynamic on my router and my DNS address is resolving just fine. Its just strange it was working from a different ISP?

I even forced my connection restart to get a new live IP and the DNS resolved in about 15min..
Forcing a restart a second time with a new IP and manually updating up DNS worked 100% too.

Thanks for all the help guys! It seems we always look for the most complicated solutions to the most simplistic problems.

I consider this thread closed.

Cheers, Jimbo!
