Do any of you guys use vinegar as a fabric softener replacement?

Howzit. I have heard that may people use white vinegar instead of fabric softener. Apparently does not leave your clothes smell....it just smells fresh. Clothes are also more fluffy as there is no build up.

I have started looking at prices of washing machines as I might need to buy one this year. Was looking at the Defy 8kg 1400RPM model...and in its manual it says that you are not to use vinegar in it? So...I did more searching on the web and many say it is fine...while here and there others say it could damage the hoses and seals?

What do you guys think? Have any of you used it for a long time and have you had problems with your washing machine because of it?

Vinegar is acidic, so could eat away at certain plastics over time.

Which makes sense...it is a acid...but considering how weak the acid is and add to that it gets diluted to such a large degree in the wash....could this really harm your machine? So many people say they have used vinegar for 4 years plus and have had no problems with their machine. Dont know what to believe. Were they just lucky. I wonder if anyone on mybb uses vinegar

Well washing powder is alkaline so who knows. Try it on an old machine.

Clubbing?

seal biltong, seal shoes, sealant, seal balls, heck all good things come from seals, and if you have the time to train them, they can balance your beer on their nose, most excellent party trick to impress south african visitors, I am currently training my latest one to do the washing, but I have a whirlpool and not a defy...

We do, 80-100ml at a time. I really doubt that 80-100ml on 12l of water is going to erode my machine from the inside. Also I do believe that the alkalinity of washing powder or what ever is left will cancel each other out.

They make such a huge difference in your towels, although I use vinegar which is just as good as softener.

Actually I found out towels to be softer and fluffier now that we switched to vinegar.

weve used vinegar quite alot. but just a small dash as too much might make your clothes smell a bit like vinegar.it helps remove any odours which is nice. have never had a problem with machine leaking since we started useing it. we however put it in as the pre-wash rinse.

I will get a little bottle of white vinegar and try it with my next laundry night (friday). They keep using the term "white distilled vinegar" Do we have that here? Is it just normal white vinegar?

I am just gonna put the same amount in the softener dispenser. I am sure that wont be too much and once that gets diluted with the rinse water the effect on the pipes should be neglegible...if there is any. Will see how it goes :)

I very specifically don't use it on towels because then they don't absorb water any more.

Maybe vinegar doesn't have that result. I'll try it out sometime.

What vinegar btw? Normal white I'm assuming and not something drastic like apple cider vinegar?

Ja...just the normal white vinegar you put on slap chips. On the net people use the term "white distilled vinegar" .
