Ah, when you mention product then yes you may need a permit. I haven't done extensive research but reading up on importing supplements it does seem to be the case. I also doubt you're importing quantities that can go by as personal use but with the tools working there you never know they may see a kg of pure B1 as no different than a kg of protein. Better to speak to a specialist importer about it.
Yeah true, thanks a lot really appreciate the help! It is just 1-2kgs as its enough for 2 tons of the product, just needs a little bit.

Hi guys, Ive been wanting some bulk vitamin B1 but its insanely expensive here (R15 per gram) but I found I can get it from china at R1.50 a gram, just wondering if anyone knows if I need special permits as its not a medicine/drug but SA being SA might have classed it as one

Are you trying to make your own local covid19 cure/remedy ?

Im aware that they use Thiamin aka Vitamin B1 as a Chloroquine substitute.

Yes but as long as your product mentions where your ingredients are sourced from. Have had bad experiences with Chinese supplements previously.
Uhm yeah..... I mean there might be some slight side effects (might last a biiit longer than expected :p) but im sure your significant other wouldnt be too disappointed

Make sure it is at least CP /AR grade and let a International approved company draw a sample and have it certified by a Independant laboratory prior to purchase and shipping,

Well it has nothing to do with "natural remedies" mumbo jumbo. There is clinical papers showing that Thiamin does in fact help covid19 patients. ;-)

On the alcohol note, do you work with alcoholics perhaps ?

Ye I asked that but now that I think about it if you add B1 to alcohol it would help alcoholics even more. ;-)

The reason I asked if you work with alcoholics is because B1 is given to alcoholics who are deficient else they peg and die from consuming alcohol. I don't know the specifics but excessive consumption of alcohol does something relating to B1 deficiency.
