Hi

So spend R30 000+ a few months ago, full HD big ass LCD, nice sound, HD PVR.

Missed half the rugby games since then, gona miss 2nights on as well. The HD PVR`s is not fit to be airdropped into 3rd world countries, not even to mention selling for R3999. Its been broken 90% of the time, phoned them this morning, had it reset and got the E30 cleared, ready for the rugby tonight! Yeah! nope....its down again....just spend 23 minutes on hold without being connected to a consultant. Ive also been told by one of their consultants in one the 7 phones calls to them the last month or so that multichoice "has no refund / replacement policy". So basicly im out R3999 and they cant care less they just keep taking my R500+ per month. The one today told me I can drive to one their centers and have the decoder tested. Which i dont need to cause i know its broken. Or maybe thats just the quality of products and service they render? They truly are the Telkom of TV, another monopoly screwing south africans out of decent service. Or just any service really. Lets hope one of the new players get in the market quickly so that we will actually have AnotherChoice!

Do not know where you are but best is to take it to the closest main center. JHB, Cape town etc.

Yeah.....have been contemplating for more than a month. Purchased the TV but still two minded on whether to get HD or not.

I am just a bit afraid, that hopefully competition will be here soon and they will have a better value proposition. I don't want to spend the 3k as I might need it for the comp.

Just swop it our under warranty or if your warranty is finished pay R350 to swop it out. Next one will not be prefect but should work 'most of the time'.

You spent R30k on all that stuff, for HD DSTV???

Get yourself a media player and download your HD content. Use normal DSTV for your sporting requirements.

Exactly why I still have DSTV, otherwise I would have launched them long ago. Some months I don't watch DSTV at all and should disconnect, but too lazy or can't be bothered to phone call centre.

I only have it for the sport. The 30k was for big ass HD LCD and sound asswell. Got that hooked up to pc and PS3 for the stuff i actually watch.

Do not buy the HD PVR, they are bringing out new one in few months since they also know this one is complete crap, rather wait for that. Defnitly worth the wait. I dont even get channel info or tv guide on mine when it works, not to mention consistently recording stuff!

If thats what you think then you really should do more research before forking out your money, and maybe get a proper installer. If you cant get the guide then your problem is obviously the installation, but feel free to get the new decoder in a few months and you will have the same issues

Mine works just fine thanks

Its not the right time to upgrade to HD PVR - I think the service doesn't even support more than one ore two channels yet. I wanted to upgrade to a HD PVR but the guy who installed my first decoder actually told me its better to wait 2-3 years before upgrading to a newer unit... Its just like everything else. all new stuff will give problems in the begging.

Hope everything turns out good in the future.

Installation issues for sure... So easy to blame MC for the fact that you probably used a bad installer. Get a good installer to sort this out, and all your troubles will be gone. The HD decoder is great. I have one at home, at work and I've been involved with many installations.

Must be installation issues..

Mine has been running fine for damn nearly 12 months now thank you very much..

I have the OCCASIONAL hiccup with signal reception.. but nothing more than previous decoders etc...

Oh and btw, the new decoder will have the same software as the current one so it will just be slightly faster, nothing more really.

I spose my much repeated mantra needs to be re-iterated, if you're going to bash a company and a product, do so from the correct position... not from some hyped up BS position. YOU got taken for a ride by your installer, and now you're trying to blame the mess on Multichoices decoder, when it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the decoder.

ToxicBunny, if u want to make a statement get your facts right. This has nothing to do with the installer, unless somehow the previous decoder worked fine and now suddenly plugging in the new decoder caused the problem. So kindly go bash yourself, I know what im talking about. And yes new things do give problems. My issue is with the way MC handled the situation. And yes obviously a satellite signal will give problems in storms etc when the signal is interrupted, that was also not the problem and was not mentioned at all.

So go take your hyped up BS position and go sit in the corner, dont comment on things u have no clue about. I know what im talking about, so feel free to come "fix" my installation. And as to your comment about having NOTHING to do with the decoder, MC actually disagreed with you on that as well. So go do your research mate, dont come bull**** from your high horse because you probably got raped by a installer once and had to spend your hard earned money again. This was not a new installation. The problem is most definitely with the decoder itself, and MC have finally agreed to replace it today after months of issues. So dont comment on stuff YOU have no clue about from your hyped up BS position.

Billy yeah i dont really think its worth all the cash yet, i bought the new TV and wanted the HD rugby. Which is freaking awesome when it works! Nothing beats the HD quality. The must just get their service in order. Spend more then 25mins on hold today without getting through to their call center.

How have MC "handled" the situation differently from how they've ALWAYS handled the situation.

Everyone else has minimal to zero issues with the HDPVR.. but yours never seems to work at all.

Where did MC disagree with that in YOUR post.. you just bashed them and the HDPVR... every single symptom you described pointed to a pisspoor installation.

Unfortunately for you, I've never been raped by an installer because I actually have a clue and have done my installations myself.

Oh just as a btw, do you have a dual/quad lnb.. and are you populating all 4 of the lnbs on the HDPVR correctly? hmmm?

Oooooo thems there fighting talk.... get off your little attitude problem and get a clue, you were bashing MC with sweet FA to back it up and THAT sort of attitude irritates me because it DOESN'T help the consumer build a decent position to fight valid fights from...

Lol, get a life, ive got a degree in computer engineering, i know electronics and i know software and satellite connection. As for my attitude problem, i have every right to complain about their piss poor service. Because thats what I have received, if you have a problem with that, then go start a blog. You came in here with your BS talk. I was giving my opinion about a product and service. I cant be bothered to argue on a forum with some1 who has no clue what he is talking about. So kindly go on rambling about how u know its a installation problem. I`m gona have some coffee and get my replacement decoder on monday since even MC have finally decided that I needed one, but im sure you can come fix the installation if only you had the chance. I`m sure all previous complaints about the decoders are all installations problems. Im sure the overheating is caused by the installer that pressed the power cable to far in the socket.
So im going to have some coffee, and enjoy the few minutes of working HD i have. You go on rambling if you want.

Your "Link" sounds "Broken" bud and I am not referring to the DSTV link. Yes there was issues with the HD PVR decoder per se' but to wait forever is not worth it either. Since the Olympic's many have lost out simply because of a few scaremongers continually bashing the new system, they are still waiting whilst others enjoyed the worth of their money spend.

Lets calculate. Rough estimate is 16months of HD DSTV that is roughly R2500/480 days = R5.20/day spend (decoder only) for HD TV albeit limited channels but then there is the up-scaling and recording features too. A bargain in anyone view for sure. Then there are those that is still waiting, losing out.

So go to an DSTV center, exchange the unit, reinstall it and enjoy whats available while you can. Just calm down and stop attacking others for rightly or wrongly giving their opinion and mostly state the fact that there system is working from onset and they enjoyed the benefit of their purchase, maybe you was just unlucky or your "Link" is "Broken".

Cheers bud enjoy the show.
