And im also sure the 300+ (cant be botherd to count exactly howmuch) complaints on Hellopeter are also installation problems.

I am Penguin please go read the top of the thread. I had no intention of attacking any1, i stated my experience with the system and recommended that in my opinion the gave horrible service and that i dont think people should buy the old model. I did not start attacking any1.

You go on about me having a problem with you whilst you are attempting to tell everyone NOT to buy one, on nothing more than YOUR experience with a single decoder.

Yes, maybe you got a dud decoder, that does not mean the HDPVR is a piece of rubbish, it had its issues, but most of them have been sorted out. Please do more research before you go jumping on your own little soapbox.

Lol, get a life, ive got a degree in computer engineering, i know electronics and i know software and satellite connection. As for my attitude problem, i have every right to complain about their piss poor service. Because thats what I have received, if you have a problem with that, then go start a blog. You came in here with your BS talk. I was giving my opinion about a product and service. I cant be bothered to argue on a forum with some1 who has no clue what he is talking about. So kindly go on rambling about how u know its a installation problem. I`m gona have some coffee and get my replacement decoder on monday since even MC have finally decided that I needed one, but im sure you can come fix the installation if only you had the chance. I`m sure all previous complaints about the decoders are all installations problems. Im sure the overheating is caused by the installer that pressed the power cable to far in the socket.
So im going to have some coffee, and enjoy the few minutes of working HD i have. You go on rambling if you want.

Ahh so MC and thus everyone else is/was right. You need to resolve the issue by changing the decoder. As said/stated. I bet within a few days thereafter you will still rant here. Now just imagine you with a "Computer Engineering Degree" and knows Electronics had the mindset to discuss this with MC before you created this rant, I mean post. Whwen ever i had issues and I explained the problem from an electronics viewpoint they realized I know what I am on about and just changed the units I took in.

So why are you changing it, just sell it and wait for the new type/unit to be released. Then state you are still going to "ENJOY" the working HD, so it was not so bad at all. You just had an issue YOU battled to resolve.

Great you are sorted now! thus have your drink, calm down and stop ranting!

im not ranting. i was to MC in the begging. And i`m not going to argue about this.
Ive shared my experience and annoyance with my decoder. Do with it what u want. Toxi took it personally and blew a gasket. thats his issue. I`l go swop mine out for a working one on monday, but will still be annoyed that it took 3 months of hassles to get it sorted. And nope i wont sell it, the HD is awesome when working, i just wish it could be backed by a company who gives proper service, the reason i can swop it out is because they told me earlier tonight, which was different from what i was told by the MC calll center a few weeks ago that they have no replace / refund policy at all for malfunctioning decoders, even if it was like that from the start. My issue was because MC did not want to change the decoder for a few months before they admitted that was the problem.

And great sarcasm there. Was hilarious.

Go read dstv.com and see what people think of that heap of junk.

Sorry to hear about your HD PVR problems mate. My experience with it has been different to yours. I got it the first week it was launched as it was selling for R2,500 and yes initially it had lots of s/w problems but I never had any loss of service just annoying stuff with navigation etc. While initially most of the HD content was meagre and kinda rubbish it has improved and I am looking forward to the launch of more HD channels.

This has nothing to do with the installer, unless somehow the previous decoder worked fine and now suddenly plugging in the new decoder caused the problem.

Well the installation would have had to be changed for the HD PVR, no matter what decoder you had before. Check you multiswitch and dish alignment. I will still go by the fact that this is an installation issue... and that most of the "300+ complaints" on HelloPeter is too. Lastly, having a degree in Computer Blablabla does not make you an expert on satellite installations. Get a good installer. KAPISH!

Weird the same thing happened to me when I took the engine out of my beatle & stuck it in my Merc, it just wouldn't work, Merc need to sort themselves out

Why dont you actually tell us what installation you have so maybe you can be helped, or did you just take your single LNB & plug it into the HDPVR?

There's also been complaints about shows purporting to be HD or advertised as such but are not. Apart from the "s/w problems" I would say how much annoyance can you take?

Imoe that is a good price! That is the same price they were retailing for last year. I'm keen to get one in the new year. I just hope that there are some good deals around then.

R2499 is a great price for it. But i`d still say wait for the new one if its not gonna be that long before release, the slowness is a bit annoying.

Just a update, got a call from MC today, they actually follow up on complaints :) The call center girl who told me they had no refund / replacement policy was mistaken, they do actually replace it with a new one if the problem is within 60 days of purchase and refurbished one for up to a year after that. So +1 for MC for actually sorting this out and arranging follow up call to make sure i`m sorted next week.

Its not a single LNB installation. No point in going in to the LNB details for a decoder overheating, and I can google the needed info`s, no point in making people type it out :)

So you had a dud decoder, and MC actually sorted you out as per their normal policy then and your initial rant was nothing more than a pointless rant that could have been solved if you'd gone in to a MC centre like they'd asked you to initially then?

I cant recall watching non HD content on the HD channel and IMO I'd rather have even one HD channel than none :)

does the HD PVR give u two or three tv streams? (i.e one main, 2 remote/rooms or 1+1 like the PVR)?

I'm also tempted, just that I will have to get twin LNB's too. checked out the price at Zakspeed and its scary, plus a splitter, and then I have to run HDMI throughout so I'll need an HDMI switch or HDMI switching amp for the other devices.

I just fear this will be another "speedboat" story :) At least for now.
