As title suggests. Lets have it.
Bonus points, do you think calling your parents by their first name is a sign of disrespect

Age group and Culture would be appreciated in your answer

Don't be silly, parents don't have names. Next you'll tell me your teachers have names too.

Well, when i was about 3 or 4 my parents thought me to call them by their name.
Wish they did not do this, very awkward the older you get.

+1

My eldest daughter (from my 1st marriage) called me by my first name in December while visiting me, I corrected her on the spot. My 6yr old son did the same that day (influenced by his older sister), I asked him how hard should his hiding be! He never did it again.

For me its a sign of respect, like adding a title to your friends parents or friends of the family. It makes no difference if its Oom/Tannie/Unlce/Auntie/Mr/Mrs/etc, but it shows a respect. Event the nanny gets addressed with a "title" as Auntie.

Then again I don't care about other peoples kids, I just care about mine and how I raise them.

Mommy & daddy. I'm in my 30s & they're in their late 50s. We're all coloured.

My kids also call my wife & me mommy & daddy.

Mommy!

The older you get, the more you understand just how much respect they deserve.

I call my Mom 'Ma' - as in 'Shady Pines, ma!' (You are showing your age if you get the joke.)
My in-laws I call by their names. Just feels wrong calling them mom and dad.

My mother is referred to as Mamma by both me and my sister.

My mom still referres to her parents as Mamma and Pappa . Just how it is. When a stern conversation is happening ... Mamma turns to Ma.

My brother and I both call our parents by their names. I've never called them mom and dad.

Just curious :

How old is she?
Why did she do it?
How often do you see them?

Mom and Dad here, but I call the SO's folks by their names (at their request).

Other family members one generation or more up all get Uncle/Aunty/Oom/Tannie/Ouma/etc added to their names.

White, in my 20s, raised in a dual English/Afrikaans household.
