do you ever get full speed?

Ok every once in a while I seem to be the target of frustration towards iBurst, like I've become a figure head for it or something.. sometimes its by people who have never even used it but just make assumptions and other times it is from understandably frustrated ex-iburst users.

It sort of happened today again, nothing hectic, nothing uncivil but again the same point came up that has before. Apparantly myself and "one other user" are the only ones who get 1mbit at anytime.

Before you post without reading this post, I am doing a quick poll to see if more than 2 users get full speed at anytime regardless of their or my frustration with WBS' tactics or attitute, if you do not get full speed please do not post here, make another thread, I just need to see if 2 or more forum users get full speed EVER

I myself am currently frustrated with WBS, not as mad as I was when they cut me off but I'm not exactly happy with the service and erratic speeds in the day. But having said that when I sit down here in the evening I can get my 1mbit, single threads have got faster, I can stay connected for days (maybe longer but I reboot my PC when it gets cloggy) and ping times aren't bad. My gripes are with the little tricks WBS pulls and current day time speeds.

If you get full speed at anytime of the day and by full speed I mean 1mbit which for arguments sakes lets call 110KB/s - 132KB/s+

Basically I want to refer to this thread when people say I am the only one (I might be the most vocal one, but I'm sure I'm not the only)

little disclaimer:
no matter what the opinion of the majority of iburst users on the forum is, whether good or bad it is never a scientific sample, if anything this forum does attract either new passionate users or users currently experiencing problems sicne this is the only place to discuss the product with other users, I know that this is not a representitive sample of the 10 000 users on the network, all I am trying to prove is that its more than just me and "another guy"

How long should you be at that speed for to qualify as getting top speed?

my speeds have mostly been good, there have been days where its sucked completly.. and days where they cut me off.. but overall I get my full 1Mbit most of the time, on single thread and multithread downloads. and i have no real issues with disconnections, I am often on for days at a time.

Occasionally, even on single threaded downloads (almost gauranteed to be followed by a disconnect...)

you guys are confusing me, sorry i dont want to seem bossy here but I'm looking for just people who get 1mbit now (well not right now, since its the day at the beginning of the month), who got it last night if they chose to when the network wasnt busy or a few days ago, a week ago.. whenever you last ran a speedtest or downloaded something, it sounds to me like you're saying you got 1mbit way back in the past and now days you dont, so I'm going to count all of them as a no except for lost.

so thats 2... I just need one more to prove a point :p

95% of the time I get 120KB/s, the only time I don't is at the beginning of the month and when the tower is dead :p

6MB/Minute :D

I get full speeds all the time from home where my reception is excellent. At work I get slightly slower speeds (500 - 700K). International is only full speed on multi-threaded downloads. Single threads vary. My iburst experience has been excellent in general - expect for being called an abuser :mad: . My only gripe with it is that its too expensive. R2100 for the modem and R159 / gig. I'm planning on switching to adsl some time to cash in on the cheaper bandwidth but I don't know how I'm going to cope without the portability. I've become so reliant on having internet with me where ever I go.

However I wouldn't recommend iburst to people because of the mixed results forumites have had with their service. I couldn't with confidence recommend people to signup when they might have terrible speeds and non-existant customer service, coupled with the seemingly apathetic attitude of WBS management. I'm also in doubt about the future of iburst. Who's to say they'll even be around in 6 months. And then all the money spent on the modems is down the toilet.

So its a good service when it works run by a not-so-good company. Your mileage may vary.

YES, since lastnight when I last posted my speed it has been constantly fast, and I did the test below a minute ago.

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 3.719 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 1097.1 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 134.4 (kiloBytes/second)

BTW I am still on the same IP that I had since I reset my router in the last week of July, with NO disconnections as far as I am aware.

To sum up July was really the only month that was irratic, besides yesterday until late at night.

Well, I guess I can pipe up and say most of my downloads come down at 1MBPS, but, I am a user late at night rather than during the day. Sometimes I do have to use GetRight to get the full speed...

Bscc: 16 Cost: 62-67 ... would be interesting if ppl could include these.
