Where is the money (R500 bil) for the extra hospital beds required???
Punishing 90% of the population for 10% nut cases is always the solution of a weak and lazy leader.

Yes..

The fact that the government has to resort to prohibition despite many, many statements for weeks saying it was gonna come back if people don't learn to moderate is more a reflection on the state of our society than on the government.

The fact that people don't say a thing about abuse but are enraged by this action shows how stupidly politicized this issue is only thing funnier is the Trump supporters who were against the face mask. logic.. not good with these folk.

And what about the fact that responsible people are getting penalise for the behaviour of others? Do you support this socialist narrative?

If the regulation is based on proof that hospitals are overwhelmed, then I would support a stricter alcohol regulation, but the law abiding citizens should not be penalized because of a small percentage of alcohol abusers.

An outright ban on the sale of alcohol does not make sense. an active enforcement of the quantity of alcohol that can be sold to an individual over a period of time makes more sense.

The trouble is when people drink to excess then they love everyone and want to fall over each other and hug to excess and so spreads the virus.
Alcohol should be rationed only

How fast can one build capable doctors and nurses? (#bedsarenttheonlycapacityneeded)

So all who say drinking doesn't cause issues, ask any paramedic you know how many alcohol related vehicle accidents they had to attend to pre and post first alcohol ban lifting? I know the emergency whatapps groups were much quieter in regard to MVAs.

And if you say banning is not the solution to this, what is your short term fix? Policeman in every house?

No, alcohol abuse is merely a symptom of a larger issue, alcohol itself is not the issue although I do somewhat understand the 'need' to ban it under the current circumstances. I don't fully believe that merely banning sales will result in people not drinking though.
Similarly - banning electrical appliances because the power grid is under strain(Failing).
Fix the problem - health system - power grid - water system.
Pretty soon we will be asked(forced) to consume less food because the food production is under pressure(failing) and that is our fault.
The government had the lock down to prepare the health system - they did not!

No alcohol sales could have been restricted with less trading days or limits in purchases. No bulk purchases. It’s a vote for illegal sales to line pockets of corrupt officials and traders

I will support most rules and laws that are made democratically. Did I or someone that properly represents me get to have a say in the banning of alcohol? No. So my answer is emphatically NO!

Wait a minute. We're on par wit the cases, but only 4.5k deaths? What the ****ing **** is going on?
Reporting is an issue but there are other factors like demographics.
There is also a lag and it takes two weeks for the death rate to catch up to this infection spike.

The hospitals are full - that part is real.

My so-called Hollier thou Aunt and Uncle is having a field day right now...

I support the ban, but it should have been more selectively aimed at places where cheap alcohol is sold and consumed, like off sales and sjebeens. For instance, I don't think the Cape wine farms which sell high end products are really part of the problem.

I understand why many people are frustrated at the alcohol ban, but having been in a casualty ward (with kidney stones) I can understand why. Half of the beds were taken up with people who were there because of alcohol (assaults and accidents). So if you are a responsible drinker, then you're excused. But if you are one of the idiots who abuses alcohol (or other people because of alcohol), then this is your fault.

No. I don't support alcohol ban.The problem is and was the non-enforcement of regulations by the police.
