Daniel Mthimkhulu, a former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) executive who was fired for lying about his qualifications and who played a central role in the "too tall" trains tender scandal, has been ordered to pay Prasa back R5.7m.

The amount was paid to Mthimkhulu after he fraudulently lied about his qualifications in order to obtain a senior position at the state-owned rail operator, and subsequently fraudulently presented a fake offer letter from a German company to push up his salary.

Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg Judge Leoni Windell on Monday handed down judgment after Prasa sought to recover money paid to Mthimkhulu as a result of him being appointed to the position of Executive Manager: Engineering Services in 2010.

Windell also granted a punitive costs order against Mthimkhulu as a result of his conduct during the trial.

One of the things I really like about the information age is that we'll have a little less of this nonsense. I don't have any major qualifications but I worked hard for the ones I do have. I don't believe in free rides.

Lol I recall back when people started questioning this guys creds here on mybb some accused them of only doing so because he's a black man that rose to the top or something to that effect. Think it was the same with hlaudi. These days crickets...

I am not familiar with Mthimkhulu and how he carried himself, perhaps he could pull off the highly educated persona but Hlaudi?

I would be very surprised if there has ever been anyone here who was fooled by Hlaudi.

I have my doubts, cadre deployment seems to be a lifelong guarantee almost.
As much as people refuse to give credit to Cyril's new dawn of clean governance, it has been shown, multiple times that where he has powers to act against corruption he does act.

It has been a slow process but there is proof that together with Jamnadas he has been busy cleaning the SOEs of undesirable characters such as Mthimkhulu, perhaps you would find him in some provincial or municipal job where corrupt tendencies are still the order of the day.

He still had the balls to appeal? lol on what grounds?

Same as Hlaudi, etc. His ego is so big, and he believes that he is so brilliant, that mere documents and qualifications are irrelevant.

He must have had support from higher ups, to carry out blatant corruption. Now he has to face the music, and is experiencing cognitive dissonance.
