Frequently receive messages to take the phone (iPhone 14) to a CellC store for upgrading
This phone uses an eSIM
Does that need any upgrading (at the store)?
eSIM is a software sim, so basically the same details the network needs such as security keys, unique identifiers etc are stored securely on something called an eUICC.
There is no need to upgrade it. As mentioned it’s probably referring to your package.
Or.. cell c has not associated your number with an eSIM in their records and they’re sending incorrect messages.
To clarify the difference:
Physical SIMs: A physical SIM card may need to be replaced or upgraded only if there are network changes (e.g., moving from 3G to 4G/5G) or if it's damaged. However, most SIM cards are compatible with newer networks as long as the device supports those networks.
eSIMs: An eSIM typically does not need upgrading. Updates and changes (e.g., switching networks) can be done remotely without needing to replace the SIM. It’s a convenient and future-proof option.
For assistance, please send us a private message with the message you received and your Cell C number.
