My week so far
Day 1: go to store, collect deal booklet, ask what I need for contract.
Day 2: go to store with said documents, told the copy of ID I brought isn't acceptable, must come back again.
Day 3: go to store with original ID, told existing contract I have with Telkom is too old, must bring 3 months bank statements. Also, statements the bank sends me monthly aren't acceptable, I must get special ones.
Day 4: Obtain statements from bank. Contact online shop in the hope that I don't need to go to a store AGAIN. Online shop says deals in deal booklet can only be taken out in store. Go to store, told Telkom doesn't do ports on Fridays, must come back on Monday.

How hard can they make it for me to buy their product?

Well, never expected to pay and be waiting since december, but took out a voice line over a year ago and this was installed, then thought ADSL is a good idea so in January I signed up for Axxess capped with them managing line rental. At that time telkom suspends the voice account and then reactivates it. Axxess picks up "customer ceased" but my voice line works fine - they also say i must contact telkom to migrate the line - what i dont understand is - is that there is no line to migrate as i dont have adsl currently. Dont we pay Axxess to manage the relationship with Telkom when they take over the line rental anyways? Telkom tells me i need to send a mail to servcancellation(at)telkom.co.za to migrate to a holding pool - so i am like what the hell, might as well do it - and this was done 28th Feb. Over a month later and i am still waiting. paid Axxess 1000 rand already. Telkom's billing resulted in them owing me R400 currently and still struggling. They advise the order number is 159667095A for the line migration and i need to wait ANOTHER 30 days as of today! This is a joke and I intend to fight this one out. Please help me with the CEO's details or ICASA.

Not worth the effort. Some or other lackey will respond very promptly with the usual " send the bitch the standard letter" stuff, and refer you back into the system, never to be heard from again.....

As far as ICASA is concerned go to their website and look up the process for laying a complaint.

I'm surprised that someone thought they would be able to email the CEO and the mail would en up directly in his Inbox

I've mailed the entire board of directors of substandard bank before; after months of uselessness. I am pretty sure my complaint did not get to any of them (their P.A.s deal with that) but the very next day my problem was resolved.

So it is worth a try.

Your best bet is to get to know your local Telkom Store branch manager. They can make life really easy for you. Getting upset and being rude to the staff will get you nowhere fast. While some of them are incompetent, rather remain calm and ask to speak the the branch manager.

I agree completely about getting upset with staff members, hence my attempt to bring the matter to the attention of someone who hopefully cares. I get the feeling no-one at the stores are really bothered about whether I sign the contract or not - doubt very much they have some sort of incentive to sign up clients.

Each member of staff in that shop has a sales target and they get commission on sales (after a basic level).
