Does Telkom automatically stop my contract when I port out?

Hi there. I want to port back to Vodacom. I think my contract only ends a bit later in the year, August or round about there. If I port my number over to Vodacom without converting it to prepaid, does Telkom automatically charge the cancelation fee to my account and cancel the number on their side? I know I can go into the store and convert to prepaid first, but my past experience with their agents in store and 90% of the time @ their call center have been terrible so want to try and avoid it if I can.

as far as I know you cannot port a number on contract. so it looks like you will have to go through the rest first.

On Vodacom side I can submit a port request to Telkom while the number is on contract. I just have to put in my cell number, Telkom account number and my ID number and then it goes through to Telkom for approval. I am just waiting for Vodacom to archive my number as the port system wont take my number until it has been archived on Vodacom side.

Will revert back here and let you know or on Telegram if Telkom approves the port while I am still on contract :)

cool.

sadly my current contracts are with MTN. because I got an S2 from them for R100 a month cheaper than Vodacom was offering a galaxy ace back in the day. lately TM looks to have the best deals so I might go to them when my contracts expire.

Ja, I got that deal from them where you pay R99.00 per month and get 100 anytime any network minutes + 1gig per month, which is a great deal, but their network coverage is k@kka at the house, only get 4G (no 3G/2G) so if I am on their 4G network I cant make or receive calls. What I have been doing to get around that is to just force my phone onto MTN 3G roaming, but MTN have now also started getting very dodge. Used to work nicely, but now it jumps from 2G to 3G back and forth, or what also happens is I have full 3G signal, but no data wants to come through or takes very long. Sometimes the data just dies completely and the data indicator vanishes (no EDGE or 3G).

So, I want to go back to Vodacom rather. I am going to port my voice number over to Vodacom as prepaid and convert to the 79c option, and for my data going to take out a 1gig @ R69.00 per month (I have a dual sim phone), and then the R30 airtime that makes up the balance from R69.00 to R99 will give me about 30 minutes? Is that right? R0.79 x R30.00 airtime = 24 minutes? Am I doing that right?

See my post above yours.

Oh right. Makes sense if you just can't get the right signal in your house. I also got that contract - R99 with the POS Samsung phone. But I don't have any network issues so works nicely for me

I need to port 2 Vodacom numbers to Telkom or FNB Connect. Do you submit the port request on MyVodacom? I'm currently logged in but cannot find anything related to port requests.

Contracts only expire 15 Sept 2016. Can you check cancellation costs if I PM you the numbers?

How ports work is the network you want to port to must always initiate the port request. Think of it this way....you get pulled over to the new network, not pushed by your current network :)

To see how much it will cost you to cancel the contracts, you will need to phone 0821958 and they will work it out for you (there is a discount that needs to be worked out by them for individual customers). Otherwise, if Telkom does the port and you port out from Vodacom without canceling, then new numbers will be assigned to your Vodacom contracts and you may then do sim swops on those numbers to keep on ustilising those contracts untill they come to a end while using your ported out numbers on Telkom.

Ok....port went through on Friday night, so now my number that used to be with Telkom is now with Vodacom. Using that in the voice only sim slot and took out a 2gig contract with Vodacom that is in the data slot of the phone (4G). I know many of you peeps rave about Telkom, but I have to say, very glad to be back on the Vodacom network. Voice sim has signal everywhere I have been this weekend (GSM) and the data sim 4G full signal everywhere I have been. Call quality also much improved compared to when I had to roam on MTN due to no Telkom signal at the house. Also what I have noticed is that my battery no seems to last even a bit longer than normal. Even with two sims running at the same time. Not sure if it has to do with the more stable signal or something. /shrug

I am still waiting for Telkom cancellations to come back to me though as to how I can pay the outstanding balance with them and close the account as my number is now off their system.

LOL, held on for 12 minutes before ending the call. Then they want you to rate their level of service. Would have told them pathetic if they even bothered to answer the call.

If you want, pm me the two numbers concerned with your ID number, alternative contact number and email address. I will then log it to them to have the quotes emailed to you.

Seems like Vodacom porting department is "down" at the moment.
