i went into Telkom today and enquired about their LTE. He told me that their LTE only works on LTE modems and will not work on ANY LTE Smartphone as it’s a high capacity LTE and they don’t have low capacity LTE (im guessing its something like 3G and HSDPA) apparently ALL current smart phones on the market are only compatible with the low capacity LTE?

Does Telkom LTE work on your LTE enabled Smartphone and if so how fast is it?

I want to know before I spend R35 for a sim swap (im on the 10GB contract)

Is he talking nonsense or is he telling the truth ?

He is telling the truth. Smartphone must be able to work in the 2300 MHz band.

So far it looks like only the lg g3, htc one M8, iPhone 5s and 5c use the 2300 MHz network.

Waiting patiently for TM and Apple to get things done. I'd love to see LTE on my iPhone 5S.

Doesn't work, yet. With Apple, they typically have to meet with the operator and sign the configuration files before things are finalised. There's been no sign of this happening with LTE. Despite the iPhone 5S being the first to have LTE Band 40 support, no luck.

Strange, first I heard of this. Who told you that?

Yeah as a iPhone owner I can confirm this. When you insert a Telkom Mobile simcard into the iphone the LTE option gets disabled. MTN,Vodacom and Cellc has the LTE option enabled. Cellc is the most recent operator to get it activated in SA.

Once Apple approves it they will push a carrier update to enable LTE. Does not look like Telkom Mobile is in any kind of hurry to do it even though it could boost sale I think.

Anyone with a LG G3 wish to confirm that LTE on Telkom Mobile works?

Thinking of getting one.

Check gsmarena for the model that supports the Telkom Mobile frequency

As mentioned above the G3 does support the 2300 MHz band, which is confirmed by GSM arena, I just want to confirm, so as not to run into the same issue as the iPhone.

I cannot believe, I go pay R35 for a sim change and the sim card isn't compatible with LTE as its the old 8.ta sim card and telkom still don't have any 4G sim cards for the iPhone 5c (its those really small ones, nano I think it's called)

Why I was still willing to pay 35 bucks knowing the sim card couldn't support 4G I don't know...I guess I was hoping that the guy was talking nonsense.
