So got a call this morning from the MTN store where I took out my data contract - iPad and data. Seems I am eligible for an upgrade next month.

Did not know you could upgrade data contracts. Anyone know if this works like a normal cellphone contract? Upgrade includes a new device or not?

By the time I thought to call them and ask they were already closed. Can't face hours long wait for answer from 808

It probably only includes a new dongle if you upgrade, rather try negotiate a special rate if you resign

yep you can upgrade to another data contract for another tablet or dongle (check the yello trader for deals), or convert it to a voice contract and take out a phone.

Yup it works just like any other contract. You can upgrade it to a tablet,data contract with device again or a phone.

Remember that each persons account has a credit limit. If you have a credit limit of say R200 for example and you want to upgrade to a contract that costs R350 per month they will do the upgrade but send it for credit vetting again which can take a day or two if they are fast otherwise it will take up to 5 days.
