Domestic and UIF

So yesterday I receive call from my previous domestic from around 4 years back and, although her accent is fairly terrible, I made out a few words on her side like 'sign', 'documents', 'UIF' and 'you'.

After 15 minutes on the phone I said I'd rather meet her at the shops because I have no idea wtf she's on about - though it sounds like she's been advised or trying to get money. I'm not signing any documents today, but just want to understand her.

She worked for me a day a week and I don't think I paid UIF back then. After me she moved on to other employers and I totally forgot about her - but I guess she wants to nail me somehow?

Anyone been in the situation?

I think it is only if an employee works for your for more than 24 hours per month, that you then need to register the employee for UIF

EDIT: Have a look here: http://www.labour.gov.za/DOL/legislation/acts/basic-guides/basic-guide-to-uif-registration

The Unemployment Insurance Act and Unmployment Insurance Contributions Act apply to all employers and workers, but not to -
workers working less than 24 hours a month for an employer;
learners;
public servants;
foreigners working on contract to be repatriated at the end of their contract;
workers who get a monthly State (old age) pension; since 07/02/2007, no longer excluded from contributing towards UIF or
workers who only earn commission.

Ah once a week means 32 hours - so I should have back then. Thanks

I do with my domestic now - pay slip, contract, UIF etc and everything by the book, but back then I wasn't as clued up :/

So what do you think she can ask? I mean a backdate of 2 years is something silly like R250.00 - would she really go the effort for the R250.00?
