Durban - A domestic worker is being sought by police for allegedly stabbing her employee’s daughter in Pietermaritzburg.

The incident happened on Patricia Road in the Chase Valley suburb on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the woman allegedly tied the 18-year-old girl to a chair, stabbed her with a pair of scissors and ransacked the home before fleeing with household items.

Michele Coyne, the grandmother, said the domestic worker also worked for another family in Prestbury and was from Zimbabwe.

She said her granddaughter had received stitches to the wound and was traumatised.

Coyne said the domestic worker had been employed for almost a year on a part time basis.

"The family were emigrating to England and in good standing we paid her three months salary in advance and a letter with a good job reference. She thanked my daughter. We are not sure if others were involved in the robbery. We want others to beware of these type of incidents,"she said.

At 11am on Wednesday, the domestic worker called Coyne's grand daughter to the room under the pretext that a shelve had fallen down and she needed help.

All people with Zimbabwean domestics should switch to Lesotho ones as a precautionary measure, looks like the Zims are learning all the bad habits from local domestic workers.

It boggles the mind why people still employ domestics. Clean your own bloody house or live with the consequences.
Many are scared that if they try to layoff thier domestics something like this will happen

So thousands of hard working people in menial jobs must starve and suffer because of one criminal? A lot of domestics support their entire families, including the younger generation who should be out job hunting.

Clean your own house but hire a plumber or an electrician, they won't do this sort of thing to you.

I shudder to think what a plumber will do to you.
But on a side note, yes, an established business is less likely to be a threat than an informal one.

You should be happy that others are compromising their security. The more compromised your neighbour's security, the safer you are.

My time is worth more to me doing other things, the salary I pay, is the money used to give me that time. Same reason I bought a dishwasher etc, to save me time.

Time, it's so much more important than money.

Best sometimes also to go through a domestic hiring company.

I wonder why they brought nationality into this. Sure, my family was also robbed by a Zimbabwean lady whom I've know for years. She left for her year end holiday with a lot of extras. But at the same time, one of my ex neighbours is also a Zimbabwean and where still mates having the odd beer together when he's in town.

Malawians or Kenyans are best.

Suits the ongoing narrative against foreigners and sows distrust in hiring them.
Like all foreigners, some retain their culture, others adapt to local culture.
She appears to be one who adapted.
