Yeah will still be telling my domestic worker to stay away for the meantime..... still just a bit too risky for my liking with the taxi trip taken into account.
Same here but we are paying son's Nanny 4.5k per month though. Honestly, this money is absolutely huge to her compared to what it means to us. We are thinking of asking her to take month of June to find employment elsewhere but pay her June salary as well. I personally feel really bad though as she is a good worker and person. I don't know how you guys are managing this conversation?

I'm telling ours she can come back when both kids are back at school. The gardener is back next week. I'm done with weeding.
Weeds are at all time low since I actually remove weeds instead of just running lawn mower and spreading the weed-love around the lawn. I doubt if he is coming back and we just use him twice a month anyways.

We're bringing ours back for half her normal time - I will be fetching her and taking her home. Not risking putting her in a taxi.

Luckily I only pay someone for one day a week, R500. He cycles 10km.

He was on a paid break Dec+Jan, now March+.

I must still decide whether I line up some gardening/painting jobs for him.

If she is in cape town I would like to hire her.

As long as they sit on the back seat, at least 1.5m from the driver...

Would love to have our domestic helper back but she is in the high risk category and we have been paying her full salary during lockdown. Risk goes both ways as don't want anyone in my household to be the reason she catches it or risk public transport etc.

This whole COVID thing is such a damn nightmare

I would really like to get our domestic worker back as working a full time job while trying to also clean the house with two dogs in it and a pregnant girlfriend who is able to do less and less is getting tougher and tougher to manage. Our issue is the public transport she would have to use to get to us as picking her up is not really a viable option unless we are desperate as she lives around 35km away from us.

taxis are running at half capacity, are fogging between loads, and people are not allowed on without hand sanitiser and facemasks. I think domestics are just as scared as us all. IMO your biggest chance of picking up this virus is inside crowded malls and food stores, and of course the schools. The taxi industry has really made an effort to comply.

Taxi's are meant to be doing those things...

I've seen a good number that aren't.

Why would I want to pay anyone to clean my house when I'm forced to be in my house the whole day? This whole thread is moot though because nobody has any money to pay a domestic anyway.

Speak for yourself. My staff (3) have been on full pay while sitting at home as of 2 weeks before the lockdown started.

Speak for yourself. We opened 2 new business' in this lockdown and leveraged the Rand slump from offshore. Paid all of our staff and rentals too. You can either see it as being forced to sit and watch TV, or you can stop reading all the negative ****. Your choice: Survive or Thrive.

I am sorry to hear of your troubles, not all of us are in the same boat.
