Ours has been coming 2 times a month, about half-day since long before lockdown. She doesn't work more than the required amount (I think it's like 24 hours) so we never registered her for UIF, nor do we pay UIF for her (we don't have to, by law). However, due to lockdown she's lost all her jobs as she works them, so we kept on paying her (even if it has been a reduced amount the last few weeks, because we're running out of Randelas). Now that she can go back to work, I'm not sure what we're going to do with her. We can't afford her anymore, because we're 30% down on our income with everything that's been getting more and more expensive. Hell, I can't pay my rent this month.

On the flipside, she's a great worker. She's great with my son and she has a heart of gold. She's always been honest with us and I appreciate that. I'm not sure I can live with myself if I let her go, knowing that we're a source of income for her. We'll see how this all plays out. This is a **** time we're in, damn.

Speak for yourself. We opened 2 new business' in this lockdown and leveraged the Rand slump from offshore. Paid all of our staff and rentals too. You can either see it as being forced to sit and watch TV, or you can stop reading all the negative ****. Your choice: Survive or Thrive.
Look **** like this just confuses squirrel and company - like how long do we boil these Frikken frogs for, we boil and boil and they keep hopping around.

Same here but we are paying son's Nanny 4.5k per month though. Honestly, this money is absolutely huge to her compared to what it means to us. We are thinking of asking her to take month of June to find employment elsewhere but pay her June salary as well. I personally feel really bad though as she is a good worker and person. I don't know how you guys are managing this conversation?
I think you mean Au Pair when you say Nanny

Our gardener is desperate to come back. He has been paid during his off period, but says he is bored stiff. He lives 5km away and comes on his bicycle

Seeing he never comes in the house, we are thinking about. He is aware of the rules and regulations and about keeping his distance

I must say the garden and outside looks spick and span when he has been. We have large trees all around and this time of the year, thousands of leaves fall down....

Ours has been with us since lockdown started. Cleared a room for her and paying her daily to help out with kids and cleaning. Going to be hard if she's only coming back twice a week. Maybe we'll keep full time. She's been a blessing

What makes you think that?
Au pair is a job anyone 18 year old that has a car-licence and a vagina can do. Nanny is a highly specialised type of educator. Au pair is nothing than a glorified taxi-driver. A nanny is often some sort of medically trained person that is either currently on pension or close to pension age. Nurses often become nannies after many years of working as nurses.

A nanny is like a 3rd parent to the children and often works for families because some sort of disability is involved. Nannies are expected to have raised children of their own. Au pairs were children often two years before they started working as such. A nanny will be deeply involved in how the children are raised and will often be a closer confidant to the mother in regards to child raising than the father.

We have very few truly trained Nannies in this country as such a thing can only really be afforded by the super-rich. The fact that we don't train white nurses anymore went far in killing that profession. You are also not going to get a formally trained nanny for 4.5K a month.

Oh wow, did not know that but I do understand and agree about leaving school and suddenly being entrusted with some else's children.

Always thought the au pair would be more qualified.

Au Pairs usually are fancy & university going girls and they charge 10K onwards. Ours is Nanny but not the Nanny as in supremely classified with all kinds of training sense and the ones that Royal couples would hire - just the usual what seffricans say to basically what is a cost effective child minder.

Or if it makes you happy, she is not a Nanny but a-person-who-used-to-look-after-our-child-during-daytime-7-hours-when-we-are-also-at-home-and-because-we-are-busy-in-our-respective-job-and-cant-manage-him-ourselves-without-getting-fired.

My garden executive is back since this week for once a week instead of two. Still paying for two though. Will tell my domestic to come from next week Friday. So over the fear mongering. Life must go on.

Yeah I am going to ask my house executive to come back in the middle of June. unfortunately can't wait for Government to declare it completely safe as that will probably only be at the end of the year.

So if I become a domestic as a part time job, does that mean I cannot visit my friends?
