Bit of a dramatic article heading. there is nothing wrong with what Gordhan said this time.

He said in essence, Eskom has the mandate to go up to Stage 8 if ever needed, only then and if only then will it be fair for him to call for a state of disaster, not before that, which is totally fine.

Do you really want a state of disaster at Eskom, giving the ANC power to suspend all rules and spend as much as they like?

The minister also took the opportunity to point out that Eskom has successfully prevented grid collapse, whereas power utilities in California and Texas had failed.

I don't think this guy has a clue what's happened in Texas & Cali. There was extreme cold in Texas, 1989, 2011 & 2021, which he/SA Gov can't comprehend. Which 1 is he referring to? The last 1 was from 10 Feb 2021 to 27 Feb 2021. Property damage: $195 Billion USD.

In California the were wildfires in 2019 & August 2021. Cali a Blue State blamed Climate Change, Poor Planning & a heatwave. Take your Pick. Difference is people can sue the State.

So he's comparing SA, Summer & Winter to Cali & Texas, years apart. You have LS/Blackouts how many times in the last 10 Years? It cost SA how much everyday? Get real man.

Except the goal posts keep getting pushed further - we only had schedules up to Stage 4 in the past and have reached that - so when we get to Stage 8 (yes, "when") they will simply introduce a Stage 10 and say "Stage 8 is not an emergency"

That is true, but that is a different heading, the heading reads "Stage 8 power cuts possible to protect grid — Minister"

Implying a click bait way to make people think we are going to Stage 8 now to save the grid.

Who needs stage 8 anyway. We have had 10 minutes of electricity since 8am today. (and our scheduled load shedding was from 2-4 this morning already).

I had genuine respect for Pravin when he was at SARS, he knew the business inside out and ruled with an iron fist. He had a thing where he would call a random person out in a meeting and ask them a question about the business, if they couldnt answer then they would face his wrath.
Those were the days when he was actually trying, now he is just a useless windbag. Trying to talk your way around the issues with Eskom doesnt work anymore, its broken and everyone knows it.
The other fun part is the ANC talking about "the state capture" years as if it wasnt their party condoning it. Where is JZ now? he is in the ANC of course!

Unfortunately, the vast majority of our backwater, illiterate and politically-blinded population will lap this sh*t up as ''Das sum gud sh*t, comrade!''

....the power utility has plans in place to protect South Africa’s grid from total collapse.
We all know how much we trust in their "plans". They usually have the bestest of plans.
