Double DIN Android devices

R4,200 - and then who knows what when it hits customs.
(thats with reverse camera, OBDII, and 3G)

They had units with no DVD - and small buttons at the bottom, but not in the size closest to my fascia.

Apologies for hijacking - I am also looking at a new unit for my car. Tiguan 2011 model. Was thinking about going double din normal radio, but would prefer android. Would it integrate with my steering controls? Also, no suppliers locally?

You'd either need to get a 3rd party canbus interface - or buy a unit specific for your vehicle.

Stopshop.co.za seems to be a local alternative, but they couldn't help me with a Android 4.2.2 unit (which seem to be the best performing for in vehicle application)

e.g. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...1G-CPU-1GB-RAM-for-VOLKSWAGEN/1311448226.html

You need to do quite a bit of time on research of who "assembles" the unit you buy, the actual shell will be standard across the manufacturers, but some take short cuts, or have poorer quality with regards to the internal assembly, and software loaded.

I went with Huifei because of the link on XDA-Dev. (the one in the link is Winlink)

@slaughter

go to the vwclub forums and get hold of a user by the name jabba
he does aftermarket units for vws
not sure if he has android units in stock yet
but his other units basically look the same as the OEM RNS navigation units from VW

Oh yes, with regards to Android, make sure its not a device running WinCE with Android on top - those are apparently dreadfull.

Thanks will give it a go.

I've bought twice from Stopshop. One unit was faulty, but they replaced it. Still using my units (sold the one car last week) and the one in my sportage still going strong (3yrs later)... No wires needed cutting, simple plug & play. Unfortunately not Android... old WinCe systems...

Most modern cars are plug-and-play installations, you just need to buy a harness from your vehicle standard to ISO standard.

The biggest problem seems to be the canbus interface, fortunately, that won't affect me.

I am a bit worried about device failure and warranty - but there was no option for a local Android product, or decent WinCE product.
