Has anyone got the Sunday Times? Can someone transcribe the wording of the ad...I think we have a good case to take to the ASASA, as the wording about broadband contradicts their ICASA submission. In addition, many of the claims that they make are false...i.e. that you can use Telkom ADSL for online gaming...

I don't have a copy at hand (I saw it at someone else's house and forgot to take it with me when I returned home) so if any one can transcribe it or even scan it and post it I would appreciate it.

i have a very hot line to ASASA - please someone, post the ad? my pen is poised, vitriol bubbling

edit

actually i am laughing - for a company that has threatened to stop or pull the rollout, a double page add is a sharp turnaround?

The recent telecommunications innovation called broadband has been defined as high speed, always available access to the internet. But it's definition that, whilst being factually correct, is hopelessly inadequate. Inadequate in the same way that fire was first defined as a way to keep warm at night. Or the wheel; a device to turn clay into pottery. As of today, broadband from Telkom allows a household to simultaneously perform functions such as online banking and financial management, gaming, entertainment downloads, education, etc., and to perform these functions at a very high speed.
But as our lives evolve, so will our applications of broadband. Because never, in the history of humankind, has there existed so much information so readily available. And if history has taught us anything, it's been that our progress has been quantified by a simple equation; information equals stimulus, stimulus equals growth. You may find it strange that we at Telkom are offering you a range of products, the potential of which we're not entirely sure. But we do know that a portal into the future has been opened with broadband; either a clue as to how we will henceforth conduct much of our lives, or a glimpse of the infinite possibilities that stimulus encourages. And this is just the beginning.

Telkom is not the only company offering broadband.

what i do find strange is that such a small percentage of the population can afford this wonderful future as offered by Telkom. Who the hell do they think they are!

What drivel is this ? Is this seriously from a newspaper ?

"You may find it strange that we at Telkom are offering you a range of products, the potential of which we're not entirely sure."

Well when you do know what the potential of "broadband" is , please give me a call.

Definition "Broadband" -
" A type of data transmission in which a single medium (wire) can carry several channels at once. Cable TV, for example, uses broadband transmission. In contrast, baseband transmission allows only one signal at a time." - http://www.pcwebopedia.com/TERM/B/broadband.html

Someone get this ad crushed, the reference to broadband is misleading the public, broadband does not in any way, shape or form refer to the internet.

huh? so you're not a monopoly?

Yup, that's the message and ........

They want to get the fight away from copper, away from TelkomADSL.

They want the comparisons to made on a "broad" basis and they gonna prove it

They got the best broadband to offer locally.

TelkomADSL, what's that ? ....

We got broadband DSL and it's cheaper than any other broadband in the country.

Clever, it will fool many.

here's my version - its what Telkom MEANT to write:

"You may find it strange that we at Telkom are holding a gun to your head
and crippling you financially, using weapons, the potential of which we're not
entirely sure.
But we do know that a portal into the future has been opened with this
rubbish that a highly paid suspiciously-sniffing team of copywriters sucked
out of their thumbs during a hard day of presentations, pitches and
re-pitches, until we fat, grossly incompetent pigs at Telkom, scratched our
purulent asses and decided that this meaningless waffle would be good
enough for you stupid sheep of South Africa.
And this is just the beginning. We intend to rape you at every opportunity.

We will destroy your salary, your ability to send your kids to a good school,
we'll make sure that 40% or more of your monthly income is sucked up into
our overpriced inflated and imaginary prices for broadband.

Why? Because we at Telkom think you are scum. We think you are stupid,
ignorant, meaningless wasters of oxygen, and it is our God and Mammon-given
duty to sadistically torture you, punish you, drive you to bankruptcy and
hopefully suicide - just so that we can continue to post a yearly profit
reaching into the billions of rands. We have enslaved you, taken huge sums
of money from you - and when your corpse lies cold and rotting, we'll take
from your children as well. We'll keep taking, until your descendants are
dressed in rags and begging for food like the animals they are.

We at Telkom know you're an insignificant worm, to be stamped on and
crushed, burdened with fake debt, in order to satisfy our profits and line the
pockets of the morbidly obese politicians we have bribed in order to keep our
total control over you.

To us, you are meaningless human garbage. Meat sacks running forever
on a wheel of consumerism, for our pleasure and profit.
Pay us until you die. We'll laugh on your grave, assuming your cancerous and
anxiety-shredded body isn't just left on a rubbish heap somewhere, for the
birds to eat and puke up afterwards.
And don't worry, we're translating our friendly messages into at least 11 different languages, to make sure that the profit never stops, and more
and more of the citizens of this country become our slaves."

You know it is becoming ever more clear to everyone that Telkom are either totally deluded and truly believe what they are doing, like this ad for example, everyone knows that prices are way too high for most, but then they try and pull moves with other ads that spout our rates are affordable.

One of the tricks to keep people in line is to control the media, why do you think the old Nationalist Government pulled the strings of the SABC, in fact created it in the first place by passing a law which forbid any advertising.

It's the same today only you get a little bit more, but it is my opinion that the role that Telkom is playing is to keep the lid on things. But more and more people are seeing what is going on, and then the game is up

And it's a silly game that they are playing

Would it not be a good idea to strike while the iron is hot and place those newspaper ads as discussed in another thread? Maybe we can place an ad which tells the actual truth about Telkom's ADSL service.

we should book a double page ad for this sunday.
we need to place an ad that:
1. is easy to understand even for the dumbest person in the country
1a) calls for attention from anyone who has ever had a problem with telkom
2. explains that ALL ROADS LEAD TO TELKOM
3. explains the full ADSL pricing structure
4. shows a table of similar countries and their full ADSL costs in RANDS
5. explains that ICASA is bringing Telkom to book and needs public support
5a) touches on the high cost of fixed line telephony
6. has a tear off portion so people can join myADSL by post
7. encourages people to register on My adsl and make 1 post stating we have support in the stickied SUPPORT thread we are going to make this week...

SO, all those bods who offred financial help, now is the time to stand up and be counted.
Goung to double post this in a new thread under Announcements. please could you comment there?
Thanks
P

Can anyone remind me what telkom claimed ADSL was not suitable for? I was thumbing through the latest FHM last night and this massive Telkom ad fell out. We're talking bigger than A3 double-side full colour. Part of the ad was a list of suitable tasks HomeDSL could handle: Download music, get movies online, and gaming to name 3.
