I am based in Fourways and have been connecting to the 3G service with very little disruption. For the past week I have consistently been downgraded to GPRS after being connected for a short while. I have almost perfect line of site with the cell mast. Is this a common experience?

Hey derekb,

Are you using a 3G preffered profile ?

If so, switch to 3G Only since the cards switch to GPRS before really "needed"

Derekb,
Reselection from 3G to GPRS takes palce when the 3G signal drops to a set level and is normally due to a drop in 3G signal level. For this reason, I find it better to use a 3G only and GPRS only profile depending whether I am in 3G coverage or not. You can use the 3G only profile everywhere and when it does not find network, then switch to the GPRS only profile.

Hi Tazz,

I am using the latest Vodafone Mobile Connect software for Mac OS X. There doesn't seem to be anywhere where I can select an option for "3G only".

Are you using a 3G-Preferred or 3g-Only profile? You might want to try a 3G-Only profile and see if your connection stays stable.

Note: Oops, just saw Tazz beat me to it.

Thinking - thinking - thinking

derekb, I can't seem to recall on the Mac Software where to change the setting. Will dig and keep you posted.

There should be an option under the menus to select , create , or edit profiles.

Create a new profile , in one of the first steps you will be able to select which network to be used. There u select 3g only ...
