Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) & MTN

OK here's a question for the data boys lurking. I am using DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) to manage the donwload of files via my MTN data connection.

When I download a file using the "extreme acceleration option" I get up to 140kilobytes per second. Large files (50-100 Mb) take mere minutes to download.

However, browsing is slow. I mean really slow. I just rebuilt both my home systems (Sony VAIO VGN-T37GP and VAIO VGN-SZ28GP notebooks) from scratch, and disabled auto updates, thus still running IE6 on both. There is a slight improvement in browsing speed using IE6 as opposed to IE7, but nowhere near the iBurst speeds I was used to.

If the downloading of files are flying, but browsing is slow, does this mean that my Internet Explorer needs to be tweaked. I mean DAP uses something like 11 simultaneous connections to the server from which one is downloading, why can IE (or any other browser) do this?

Based on this observation, does this mean that my physical connection through MTN is really optimal (from a downloading POV) and the browser just needs some optimization?

Mods please do not move this thread as I feel it is relevant to the slow MTN speeds a lot of us are currently experiencing.

Thanks, Rudi
